Vintage Tie Quilt
Name of Maker: Unknown
Vintage Tie Quilt - This is a completely hand-pieced quilt made from men's silk ties. The top was purchased at an estate sale in NY but no one there knew anything about it. I layered it with batting and cotton backing and quilted it on my mega quilter and frame.
Christmas Star 1
Name of Maker: Robin Gold
Christmas Star 1 - I modified the design quite a bit to make it possible to paperpiece it. Several of my relatives received variations of this for Christmas this year
Welcome, Phoebe!
Name of Maker: Robin Gold
Welcome, Phoebe! - For my brand new (and first) granddaughter. In the Fons & Porter article, the quilt was done all in shades of blue, but I thought the pattern worked really well with the animal print blocks. I'll use the pattern again for other things.
Lovely Lunacy
Name of Maker: Robin Gold
Lovely Lunacy - My second completed quilt, made for my daughter and her (now) husband. My husband wants me to make one for us, too. I loved doing the applique on it and will probably use the pattern again.
Sum Of My Scraps
Name of Maker: Sully
Sum Of My Scraps - This quilt was produced to satisfy the criteria of a quilt guild challenge. The hair is fabric that was the given and the theme was: I'm Out of My Box and Loving It". The background fabric is part of a piece made at a sun dying workshop. Of course after producing it, I had no idea how I could use it in a project. The facial parts are leftover bits from a McKenna Ryan BOM project. Thus the title was born.
Las Cruces
Name of Maker: Janice Jones
Las Cruces - In the quilt there are 12 different appliqued cross patterns, each having a narrow accent border and an appliqued border inspired by a traditional Spanish timnwork frame design. Each block is machine appliqued in the hoop on a computerized embroidery machine.
Blue Moon
Name of Maker: Carolyn Fredrickson
Blue Moon - When I first saw this fabric I 'knew' I had to make something out of it. I loved the colors and the designs. I also had to have the round design in it. I prewashed the fabric like I was instructed to do for quilts and much to my dismay the circle had changed into an oval. I had one heck of a time fitting it in and it didn't really fit right. We all love it tho and my DH thought it should be on our living room wall but Squirt finally won out. This quilt is now in Newport on display at the shop where I bought the fabric.
Linda's Sun Moon and Stars
Name of Maker: Betty Vaughn
Linda's Sun Moon and Stars - This lap quilt was made for my best friend for her birthday.
Messing About in Boats
Name of Maker: Jan Beckert
Messing About in Boats - I based the design for this applique quilt on an E.H. Shepard line-drawing illustration from Kenneth Grahame's book "The Wind in the Willows." Mole is velvet, and Ratty is brown tweed. I love this book, and I love this quilt!
Star quilt top
Name of Maker: leafy
Star quilt top - The star blocks were made in a quilt class featuring use of border prints for special effects. The pieced triangle frames around each block are from a Sharyn Craig design.
Skyrocket
Name of Maker: leafy
Skyrocket - Made for my son, Tyler. I used a wide variety of blue and black prints; each block is different.
The Comet
Name of Maker: leafy
The Comet - A large variety of batik prints and careful color and value manipulation create a bright, swirling yellow and orange comet streak across a deep purple sky.
Going to Paradise
Name of Maker: Carolyn Fredrickson
Going to Paradise - Center panel and border are hand painted and paint embellishment added to fish. I was sun painting and trying to paint light rays. I thought this looked like the ocean so added fish, seaweed and shells. Vanessa loved it and wanted it for the nursery when they have little ones.
Blanket of Stars
Name of Maker: Nona Davis
Blanket of Stars - This is the cover quilt on my book, Top This!, recently published by All American Crafts. I designed the block, and made the first block with conventional piecing, but decided paper piecing was easier.
