Linen Trousseau
Name of Maker: Marianna Campato
Linen Trousseau - This linen table runner was presented to my Aunt as part of her wedding trousseau in September of 1945, by her mother. The linen was created from the flax grown on my Grandmother's farm in Calabria, Italy. The runner was then designed, crocheted and embroidered by my Grandmother. The linen came to America through Ellis Island, in 1909. In the fall of 2007, my Aunt presented this linen to me. I crocheted and added the three doilies on one end of the runner to compliment my Grandmother's cutwork, then machine quilted the piece. I chose a raw silk for the backing and the binding to match the linen.

Phalaenopsis On The Cellular Level
Name of Maker: Ruth A. White
Phalaenopsis On The Cellular Level - Beginning life as a test for an improvised technique of neo-reverse appliquiltliqué to let the light shine through a single layer of glowing china silk, ‘Phalaenopsis On The Cellular Level’ evolved into a stylized plant cell. It is but a single cell in a multitude that makes up an elegant, silken blossom. Can you identify the chloroplasts, rough endoplasmic reticulum, and golgi bodies?
