Winter Wonderland - I originally wanted to do a winter scape theme and purchased the variety of blues, greys and silvers, but when we looked at it, it was too flat, so we added the greens and yellows/golds to spice things up a bit. I love how it turned out.
Octopus' Garden - An art quilt I started at Quilting Adventures in Texas, 2008. I took a fusing class from Sue Benner. This puppy is fused and layered and beaded and all kinds of wild stuff. I took my image inspirations from a picture book called "Reefs".
TriRyche for L and B - I made this for a couple I know from our love for the band, Queensryche. This is their logo. In all the light coloured squares I single line stitched their album covers.
Walkies in the Twilight Zone - This is another "In the Twilight Zone" quilt. The technique for this one was stamping and painting. I traced my own foot then actually put my dog's foot on a gold ink pad and stamped her foot on there! Then I inked up my shoe and put it over my foot pattern. That's real blue fingernail polish on my toes - ha! I love the metal-and-bead "ribbon".
Mardi Gras in the Twilight Zone - My bee stepped through an art quilt workbook. For some reason I got a "In the Twilight Zone" theme going. I forgot which technique this one was for, photography I think, but I used an old picture I had taken of myself in a mirror. It looks like I've been frightened. I printed out words and images from the opening of The Twilight Zone and worked them into the quilt. The backing of the piece is the silver inside of a snack cake bag! The image is actually printed on 2 separate pieces of sheer synthetic fabric. One is slightly smaller than the other to give a ghosting effect. I burned the edges of the photograph part. I think I'm a closet pyromaniac -ha! I had a lot of fun making this. It's one of my favourites.
Stars over California - Stars & blocks of red, orange, and gold on a dark blue background. Modification of pattern published in Peggy Martin's Quick Strip Paper Piecing Book. This is a modification of her Rainbow Galaxy quilt shown in the book.
Becky's B Pillow - This was my first attempt at pillow-making! I think it turned out great, and spawned a small side-business for me for a while! Custom pillows were a fun creative challenge!
Billie's Baby Quilt - This was a very fun quilt to make while working out of town in East Haddam, CT. My good friend was expecting his first child, and it made me very happy to give this to him at his Daddy-Shower!
A Very Good Year - First attempt to make a wall hanging. Made it for my daughter for Christmas. I did all the quilting free motion antother first for me.
Lady Liberty Goes to Hawaii - My first ever foundation pieced quilt was started in a workshop with Karen Stone. Her advice about building a color palette was priceless. I've never seen a quilt from one of her patterns that wasn't wonderful.
Quilting Bee de los Muertos - I make a new quilt each year for the Mexican holiday Dia de los Muertos or Day of the Dead. This quilt honors quiltmakers past & present. Any similarity to quilters you & I know is coincidental but I did include a few quilter stereotypes ;-)
Christmas Quilt - I used one jelly roll (2007 Christmas present) sewn into a fence rail pattern, with borders. The quilt needed something with a punch, so I added a needle turned Christmas flower.
