Arizona - Our President's Challenge for 2010 in our quilters' club was to create an item that included circles. As I do like the motion of circles, this was the right project for me. In creating the wallhanging, I wanted to give the impression of various aspects of the State of Arizona...the Grand Canyon, flowers, Native American heritage, and SUNSHINE.
Chaco I - Several years ago my husband and I visited the remote, starkly beautiful and mysterious Chaco Canyon in the Four corners area of New Mexico. There we were fascinated by the distinct architecture of this ancient trading and religious center in the middle of the desert where the Chacoan culture flowered between 800 and 1250 AD.
The quilt was made from my photo of a series of doorways in the Pueblo Bonito.
Hand dyed sateens were fused to a foundation and then painted to give more illusion of depth. The free motion quilting was done with silk thread.
Silk Fantasy A La Diane - A blissful week at Asilomar in a workshop with Diane Gaudynski this spring resulted in this little quilt which features free motion quilting mostly done free hand with very little marking using #100 YLI silk thread. Her techniques have changed my quilting life!
Threaded Painting Vase - After taking 2 of Nancy Prince's classes I decided to try my first bigger thread painted piece. Here it is, I think its pretty amazing myself. I have done one with fabric but this one I did totally with thread and only thread.
Red Hen Block of the Month - This is an annual block of the month quilt created by Red Hen Fabrics.
I decided to set my blocks on point and give the quilt a more contemporary feel rather than copy the shop's tradition setting design.
Batik Bubbles - Timeless Treasures batiks and the 7" Crazy Curves Templates from Elisa's Backporch made this quilt a much more contempory quilt. It did take me longer than usual to finish-just over a year from first cut to final machine quilting! The pantograph of rotorua was used.
Anna's Quilt - Anna is my oldest grandchild. The quilt was used as a wall hanging in her room for a number of years. Now she folds it at the foot of her bed.
Wearable Art Jacket - This jacket is quilted by machine with a double needle and Sulky Blendables thread. It has a matching purse with an insert of computerized embroidery on the flap.
Leaping Tarpon - My original design, hand cut individual scales and fins on a mosaic background of 1" squares. Batik and printed fabrics were fused then longarm quilted in an original design of water and bubbles. This quilt is for sale.
Stars and Beyond Challenge - My guild's quilt show, Stars And Beyond, held a challenge. The quilt had to be less than 100" in circumference and have a visable star. I won the challenge! It has beads, prairie points, piping, and tassles.
Good Nite, Sleep Tight - This is a baby quilt constructed for a church raffle for Kick-Off Sunday @ St. Paul's UCC 2000. My sister-in-law won the quilt so it is still in the family and all 8 of her grandchildren and some of my own have used it. It's a "good enough" quilt. Find the major "opps!" Also notice that I ran out of some of the fabric and used a close match and drew attention to that with a hand embroidered message "Sleep tight, don't let the bed bugs bite."
Colors of Oregon - Patterns depict coastline, coastal range, Willamette Valley, Cascades, eastern slopes, high desert, John Day Fossil Beds, Blue Canyon & Rattlesnake Schist. Pen included for dimension.
Romancing the Rose - This is my first quilt made maching piecing and completely hand quilted. I fussy cut the inspiration fabric to showcase the roses in the center of some of the blocks.
Watercolor Heart - This quilt was actually pieced about 10 years ago when watercolor quilts were all the rage, but I was perplexed on how to quilt it. Recently sent it to a long arm quilter who was given free range to do whatever she wanted. I was completely impressed with the results.
On Your Wedding Day - This was a wedding gift for a friend the hearts are machine applique with machine embroidery in the middle of each of cats and Lily of the Valley. It is a queen size.
