First NY Beauty Block

Go past the bushes and turn at the rocks - This is my rendering from memory the view on the reservation in Shiprock, NM. There is lots of sand then huge rocks jut out of the ground. The sky can be quite open and beautiful. I hope this quilt gives the feeling of strength and peace in the vast openness of New Mexico. I used my hand dyed cotton and silk to make this along with a few commercial fabrics. I embellished with thread that had come from my hand dyed fabric. After each washing I collected the strings off the fabric and waited to put them on the right quilt. They are the bushes and weeds in this quilt.

Maisons sans Frontieres (Houses without Borders) - My quilt depicts a future where people who were once divided by political, ethnic or social borders are beginning to live in peace. One house from each section has made the transition to live in harmony with its neighbours from the other section.

Streets of Gold - This quilt was made using the techniques taught by Katie P Masopaust

Arabesque - Arabesque relates to the decorative melodies of classical music. This ornate and symmetrical design incorporates curves and intricate geometric patterns. I concentrated on colour, shape, line and decorative quilting designs. All curves are machine pieced.

Emily's Forest - Tall trees, deep forest, West Coast, Emily Carr. My quilt shows British Columbia’s great forests – a theme that Emily Carr used in many of her most famous paintings. I read about Emily Carr’s life as an artist when making this quilt. A quote from one of her journals will stay with me always: “This is my country. What I want to express is here and I love it.”

Squared - I saw a quilt like this and really liked the design. Some of the large squares are all the same fabric, some just match closely.

turtles, turtles, turtlesl - Nine different turtle patterns hand appliqued onto 18 8inch muslin squares set on point and sashed together with light green sashing and dark green corner stones then bordered with three different fabric strips. All colors are in greens and browns. Each turtle is outlined with black embroidered blanket stitch. some have further embroidered details. Made for one of my grandsons. A frog on each corner may make their way onto it before it is quilted.

Calendar Quilt - Every month a group of ladies made a block for someone else's quilt. By the end of the year, everyone had a quilt, all very different.

X&O - I made this lap quilt to donate to victims of house fires in the area I live.

Grandma's Tulips - Made to honor my mother's grandmother from memories of a quilt made in the 30's. The original quilt was destroyed in the 1970's.

Stars Over Texas - Twelve stars made using mostly Moda Hill Country Fabrics, The setting pieces are Hill Country Toile, and the border is the Hill Country Stripe. I live on the leading edge of the Hill Country in Texas, so this quilt fits perfectly into my home decor! .

Unnamed - From a class by Tina, Sew Unique, Mt. Shasta, CA

Colorado Sunflowers - using rail fence, 9 patch and 9 patch variation, flying geese, log cabin and friendship blocks set together in sets of 4, then sashed together using fall colors accenting the sunflower golds. It is edged with gold triangles to simulate petals. Border is soldiers made from strips of all fabrics used. I started this in my first quilting class, the project was a small sampler quilt which i made into a queen size.
