Ain't It Grand
Name of Maker: Ellen Smith
Ain't It Grand - My husband hikes in the Grand Canyon twice a year and this quilt honors the many trips he has made over the years. Light plays on the canyon walls and what you see is never the same twice.
Pandora Revisted
Name of Maker: Ellen Smith
Pandora Revisted - Mountains are a recurring theme in my work. Several commercial butterfly fabrics in my stash were begging to be released. A picture in a magazine added the box to the design.
Shattered Slices
Name of Maker: Lassies Faire, Quiltnet Round Robin group
Shattered Slices - I took a painting I love by a little known woman artist, cut it up, and let the quiltnet group choose which square they wanted to replicate in fabric. I asked them to sandwhich and quilt, leaving enough room for me to piece the finished squares together. Fun technique that stretches your grid skills!
Salad Swap/Tossed Scraps
Name of Maker: Carolyn
Salad Swap/Tossed Scraps - My aunt, cousin and a friend swapped fabrics that reminded us of salad vegetables. I made this quilted table runner from them. I used the quilt lines from Darcy Ashton for applique shapes.
Flow
Name of Maker: Ellen Smith
Flow - An alternative name for this quilt is "With A Little Help from My Friends". Some of the fabric and embellishments were donated by my quilting friends. This enabled the design to flow.
Prelude to Third Weekend in October
Name of Maker: Carolyn
Prelude to Third Weekend in October - October is such a beautiful time with the changing colors. I am always inspired and excited to start a quilting project during the fall season but lack the time. The largest project in this pattern is of two cats playing in a leaf basket. They remind me of our cats. I never seem to have the time to make it so I settled for the smallest project... to inspire me to find the time!
Rainbow Garden
Name of Maker: Carolyn
Rainbow Garden - No mistaking this Piece O' Cake design! I got the pattern free through Rodale's Quilting Library. It was fun and I love using scraps. I embroidered some bees in the outer border.
Man from Inishmoor
Name of Maker: myself
Man from Inishmoor - Based on a photograph taken on the Aran Islands in Ireland
PJ's Birthday Pony!
Name of Maker: Damaris Estrada
PJ's Birthday Pony! - This was my VERY FIRST quilt ever! My daughter wanted a horse themed birthday party, with ponies! This was before I knew anything about hand/fusible applique. YYIIKKEESS!! Where did the boots go?!?!?
Alphabet Quilt
Name of Maker: Helen Cushing
Alphabet Quilt - This quilt was made as a gift for a friends baby.
Southwestern Quilt
Name of Maker: Helen Cushing
Southwestern Quilt - Southwestern medallion center and many borders around the center
Nature's Beauty
Name of Maker: Kathy Miller
Nature's Beauty - This was my first attempt at a watercolor quilt and I thought since the background doesn't take center stage (the watercolor part), this would be safe. Well, also having never done a quilt that required relatively perfect seams (all those 2" squares) I realized after I was done, that I didn't quite know where the 1/4" mark was on my machine's foot. Now I do! I love how much I learn with each new quilt I do. Flowers and hummers are two of my favorite things in nature. And, in this quilt, they take your eyes away from the misaligned seams!
Diamond Jubilee
Name of Maker: Helen Cushing
Diamond Jubilee - This quilt was a challenge to use many colors of the same fabric and only one pattern piece(diamonds)
Eagle Dancer
Name of Maker: Helen Cushing
Eagle Dancer - Embellishments helped make this quilt appealing.
Optical Illusion
Name of Maker: Helen Cushing
Optical Illusion - Inspired by an optical illusion picture.
Stars Along The Road
Name of Maker: Theresa Wagner
Stars Along The Road - While motorhoming during the summers, I would purchase southwestern fabric and send it to my sister in MI. When I found just the right fabric for the border, I called her and asked when would she make my quilt. "When you come here and I'll help you make it yourself" she said. So I took two weeks after I retired to spend with her, she chained me to a chair in her basement and not only did I finish my first king size bedspread quilt, I made a "bomber jacket" and started my second quilt. She's a gem, thanks Kat.
