Crazy Square - I like hand work, and have been inspired by my Great Grandmother's handmade Victorian style crazy quilt that was handed down to me. I am working on a new 'vintage' crazy quilt, but pulled one square off and bound it as a Christmas present for my friend Elaine. It was fun and challenging to learn new embroidery stiches and patterns to embellish the crazy quilt.
Bobby's Memory - Several of us embarked on a project to make triple scrappy Irish chain quilts, and we shared strips and strip sets to get as much variety as possible. Bobby's choice for the background color was bright lime green. Unfortunately she got ill, so I finished it and quilted it as a surprise, and she got to spend time enjoying it.
Cello Harmony - My grandson loves formal, "dignified", design. His favorite color is red and his instrument is the cello. I machine quilted cellos in the border.
Seaside Rose - An adapted pattern made for The March of Dimes benefit in October 2006 in Charlottesville, Va. The quilt was made from the collection of fabric by 3 Sisters.
Shenandoah Log Cabin - I wanted to make a special quilt for my college room mate who was going through some life changes. I enjoyed the challenge of making the quilt and her surprise when she received it.
Virginia Trails - My friend Sarah was retiring after 30 years of nursing in the Neonatal ICU in Charlottesville. I wanted to celebrate her accomplishments and made this quilt to remind her of our years together.
California Nites - Showed the pattern to my husband who said he liked it. Made it for his birthday. It's the only quilt we have ourselves that I've made.
Spaced Out - Made in "Darned Quilt" class on Quilt University based on design by Dena Crain. Very much out of my comfort zone, but I learned many techniques in an addictive exploration of bubbles.
Different, but Same - This art quilt portrays the idea of "acceptance." We are unique individuals--different cultural backgrounds, ages, genders, personalities, beliefs and challenges. However, we are all the same in one important aspect--we all want to be loved, appreciated, accepted and encouraged. Thus, "Different, but Same."
Caged - This art quilt portrays my idea that those with challenges may feel trapped. Families of patients with Alzheimer's disease must miss the interaction with their loved ones, and they, too, may feel caged.
Seasons Raffle Quilt - This is one of a series of raffle quilts made by my quilt group as a fundraiser for North Helpline, a charity in the Seattle area. The theme was Houses and Seasons. Designs are original.
