“G” is a quilt from the sub-series “Lemon- Aide with a Twist of Lyme” part of the “52 Yarns of Lyme – The Lyme Dis-Ease Series by Susan L. Jaenen-Griffin.  Included in the sub-series are 26 quilts that utilize over 75 different techniques.  I created these quilts while attempting to relearn the techniques that I had lost because of Lyme.    Each quilt refers to myriad of treatments that I was undergoing at the time I created them.  The following is the artist statement for the quilt “G”

“Garlic (Allium sativum), Ginger (Zingiber officinale), Glutathione”

Garlic is considered to be nutritionally complete with minerals, trace elements, provitamins, fiber and essential oils.  Its anti-bacterial properties cover a wide range of gram positive and negative bacteria.  It is also a strong natural antibiotic, anti-fungal, anti-inflammatory, anti-microbial and anti-spasmodic. The rhizome of Zingiber officinale has pain relieving properties, digestive benefits and enzyme actions.  It is anti-inflammatory, anti-parasitic, antimicrobial, anti-arthritic and an antioxidant.  It has the potential to prevent Lyme carditis.   The antioxidant action of glutathione removes the endotoxins secreted by spirochetes.

Diwali celebrates the good over evil, light over dark and knowledge over ignorance.  The inspiration for this piece came from that philosophy and a gold coin by the Royal Canadian Mint.   I envisioned fireworks sparking a change and the light outshining my brain fog.   Dragonflies are included for their association with change and light.   Rangolis are colorful designs that are drawn on floors to welcome guests during this festival of lights.  I encompassed my healing mantra into the Rangolis.

Fabrics are used in this quilt to express the rage of the EM rash which is only the beginning of worse things to come.  Medical journals report that the presence of an Erythema Migrans Rash is “sufficient to make the diagnosis of Lyme” however; it is the controversy around the treatment and the bigger issue of the long term consequences of Lyme that is the real storm.

          Made for Magic City Quilt Artists challenge: I Always Wanted To Be. After suffering from panic attacks for most of my life, I decided that the one thing I always wanted to be was Calm.

This quilt was a class on Craftsy. It is a Jinny Byer fabric and pattern. I change the basket blocks to a block using all my machine designs using a circle attachment. It was machine stitched and  commically quilted. The backing had 5 of the basket blocks from Jinny Byers pattern and fabric. It measures, 85" square.

Miniature quilt just 7.5 inches square. 

My niece and her fiancé love camping and hiking. I made this for their wedding. 

I made the for my nephew and his fiancé for their wedding.

Flower garden center of quilt pieced by my daughter's great grandmother in 1930s and 1940s. Passed to me in 1977 if I agreed to quilt. With assist from my sister I found reproduction fabric for extended border with vines.

This pattern is made of 5 wedges, each with 3 pieces - mirror image top pieces and a point.  I did not want to bind a 10 sided quilt, and thought it would be easier for the recipient to hang as a square.  I added an extension to each of the 10 top pieces and the squared it off.

Quilted using techniques by Angela Walters. Free motion quilting with some ruler work.

This quilt was designed with the Oceana fabric line from QT Fabrics that will be coming out soon. Pieces were primarily cut out with an 8” Accuquilt Qube.

Our challenge was titled "Famous Female Faces". This was the first time I tried embellising a quilt. It was a lot of fun.
