Rift Valley - Although I live in the city, it is vast, open spaces of land that truly inspire me. Undeveloped and untouched land makes me think about how so much of our earth looked to earlier inhabitants. As time passes, and these vistas disappear, they seem even more precious. I like to imagine what people long before me felt when they first saw the same landscape. There are still some places on earth that can awaken that collective memory.
Deb's Quilt - This quilt was made for a good friend, undergoing chemo......created to keep her warm during treatments. Back has the softest flannel I could find.
Pheasant Bouquet - All applique and layout setting is original design
The 12 pieced blocks were a BOM of Marti Mitchell blocks. I redrew them from 12" to 10" and altered them for paper-piecing
Then center medallion is 50" square
Almost 200 hours in constructing and quilting (50 hours handguided)
Little Hands - This was a raffle quilt for our church preschool. Each child's hand print was traced, fused on to fabric, then appliqued on to a block. The center design is the school's emblem, the figures in the corners are the classroom names, (puppy, bear, bee, turtle and duck).
Honey, Where is My Shirt! - This quilt has been many years in the making with fussy cutting and hand piecing it together at quilting meetings. I love the final result.
Fireworks - I took a class from George Sicilliano and have made two of his patterns. Loving detail this screamed "challenge" to me. 1000 pieces and quilt is 20" x 20" It is foundation pieced.
Birds to the Nines - Project completed from Jo Morton Club 13 offered at Quilter's Station in Lee's Summit, Missouri. I modified the pattern to feature the beautiful bird toile fabric in the center. Really enjoyed working out of my usual autumn colorway.
A Tisket, A Tasket - This was a UFO that I had to finish, been in my closet for more years than I care to admit!! I didn't purchase any new fabric, I made myself use what I had from my stash.(so hard!) This was also my first attempt at a scalloped border...this sweet quilt hangs in my hall where every one can enjoy!
My Tweets BOM - I follow Erin Russek's Blog, she offered this free BOM several years ago I have finally finished it. This entire quilt makes me smile. I love using the bright fabrics against the black background fabric even though it was way out of my comfort zone.
Lily Rosenberry - I worked on this quilt for YEARS! It has a BAZILLION berries & it's the same block over and over! But having said all that.. now that it's done I'm in love with it! The secondary patterns that the blocks make are so beautiful, I really love gazing at it!! It truly is a labor of love!
Crazy Quilt - Decorative stitches and motifs were sewn with my embroidery machine. I added laces, trims, beads and buttons as embellishments. The setting strips are embellished with machine embroidered roses.
Centennial Sampler - 56 blocks chosen from Judie Rothermel's book of 150 five inch blocks. Pieced and appliqued from 2010 to 2012 using foundation, template and applique methods and hand quilted in 2013.
