Batik Squares - Donation quilt. The inner batik blocks were donated by an unknown member of my quilt guild. The outer blocks were pieced from batik-like fabric donated to the guild. Overall quilt design is a swirl pattern.
String Theory I - When I saw Heart Strings in The Quilt Life, I dropped everything and dug out my strips. I started with apprx 13-inch strips, then cut the sewn strips in half lengthwise and sewed them together for a longer strip. This quilt made a good canvas for practicing all-over free motion feathers. I still have several pieced strips in more subdued colors for another quilt. I liked Jennifer's idea of quilting first, then adding applique, which I will do on the next string quilt.
Frozen - This was a word challenge quilt with my art quilt group, the Van Go-Go Girls. Choose a secret word, 12x12 quilt. The doll is the Snow Queen and I totally encrusted her with beads--she has a pale blue heart. The blue moon is a large crystal button from my MIL's button box she had given me, with seed bead halo. Satin stitch edge. See my blog for details. My word was "Frozen." First in a series--Jack and the Beanstalk is next.
Robyn's Placemats - Paper Pieced block. Highlighted Fabric Poinsettia with cream star points, red and gold spot backgroung and a centre green star triangles. 100% Cotton Fabrics.
For the Fourth - I took Judy Martin's pattern, which was for a quilt, and adapted it to create this tabletop quilt. I'm working on smaller projects for now as a way to develop my skills with machine quilting.
Danik's Sock Monkey at the Beach - This quilt was designed and made for my first grandson, Danik. My daughter, Megan, loves Sock Monkeys so what better way to welcome my grandson and her son into the world than with a Sock Monkey quilt!
Swirl - This pattern appealed to me because the base is a pentagon instead of the usual hexagon. The angles are either 36 or 72 degree--I am retired math teacher!
Tree of life label - This is part of the label of the quilt, Tree of Life, where I listed all the names that I found on the HSTs that were marked in the SOTTTs exchange.
S.ave O.ur S.eas - This was part of a guild challenge to make a quilt from recycled materials. This design came from dreams I'd had - I was hoping to get people to think about the effect they have on their surroundings and the environment.
hexie star - This miniature quilt was made with 1/4 inch hexagons....English paper piecing. a friend gave me a bag of 2 inch cut squares of old feed sacks....I used them to make this quilt ..the background is un bleached muslin.
The frame measures 15 inches by 15 inches.
To Have and to Hold.. - My husband and I got married in Jamaica in 2001..It is a beautiful place where the water is so clear and blue. I wanted to make a quilt to celebrate our marriage....What a better way then to make a wall-hanging where we can enjoy the good memories...
Flowers for Chris - Quilt designed around floral fabric designed by Stephanie Brandenberg. Outer border is a Jinny Beyer border print. Quilting was done on my HQ16, partially hand-guided and partially with computerized designs.
Gavril's Sock Monkey in a Tree - Since I made my first grandson a Sock Monkey quilt, I just HAD to make one for my second grandson! Gavril has is own Sock Monkey climbing a tree to get some bananas!
Blooming Baskets for Sarah Beth - My entry in the final round of the Original McCalls Design Star Competition. Inspired by my Original Design, Stolen Moments, as required for the competition.
Hexagon stars - My take-along project for several years was a bag of 60-degree triangles, 1.5" tall, to piece into 4.5" triangle blocks (16 little patches in each block). After a while, there was quite a stack. Time to play! This quilt is what happened.
