Jim's Deer Quilt - I took flannel deer panels and cut them up for this. The dark floral fabric has a deer motif for quilting.

First attempt at paper piecing - This was my first attempt at foundation paper piecing. I struggles for an hour or two and then the light bulb came on. This is a very good pattern and an accurate representation of my breed.

Diamonds Cubed - I challenged myself to create this quilt with batik scraps. I had a limited amount of fabric and colors. This quilt was on my design wall for 6 months as I moved pieces around until I was happy with this layout. It was a lot of fun. Class 710 made sewing a breeze. Great technique for Y-seams!

Baltimore Bouquets - This quilt is completely hand made, with needle turn applique, 3-D applique, embroidery, handpiecing and hand quilting. Most of the work was completed between 2000 and 2001 at which point it was packed up and stored until last year, when I pulled it from its wrappings and finished the quilting and binding.

"Boar"d Meeting - This quilt is inspired by the tradtional whole cloth quilts of the South of France. Motifs and symbols provide the design parameters for the whole cloth quilts of Southern France. The central motif is a "sanglier" (wild boar) requested by the owners, with fleur de lis, acanthus leaves, ghekos, cigales, etc., scrolling their way around the quilt.

Winter Surprise - This was a kit purchased by my mother. She was to complete this with my sister-in-law who also purchased the kit, but they were wanting to do it together. Since my mother passed away in October, my sister-in-law elected me to sew the kit my mother had purchased. I enjoyed learning how to use the ombre type of fabric to make this quilt, but I especially enjoyed working with my sister-in-law.

Mystery Quilt of 2003? - I completed the top before 2003 when I lived in a completely different town and state. I truly do not know where this pattern came from or whether I completed it at my old shop (which is no longer in business) or from a site on the internet.

Wedding Stars - I added the border and corner stars to make it a tad bit bigger. This is a wedding quilt for my niece- don't tell her. She doesn't get it till March! It was my first attempt at paper piecing. About 85 hours to piece. It is 91x102 inches. And yes, she asked for purple.

Rocky Mountain Thorn Bush - I took the class from Judy Niemeyer June 2005. I didn't have it quilted until Feb. 2011. I have learned a lot since I made the top of this quilt.

Prairie Star - I completed this quilt after attending a 3 day seminar taught by Judy Neimeyer.

Leftovers - After making Prarie Star, I had lots of fabric left over. I decided to play around and make test blocks of patterns I liked and try new techniques. In the end I put them all together with just a few mistakes!

Easter Eggs and Martians - A four color two-patch quilt set on point. This was an easy quilt to make! It flew together. Go to my website (www.hexilady.com) for more photos.

I Give You My Heart - I tried my own twist of the old technique known as "fracturing" or "shattering" and used staggered strips, instead of squares. As I was pulling strips up and down, thinking Bargello, I began to see a heart forming, and just went from there. The finished quilt needed something more, so I ripped off the binding and added a corded binding. Then I decidied to add a second corded binding. I think I am finally done with the quilt!

The Geisha - This was started in a class by Faye Anderson at Houston Festival one year, and completed in 2011. It is mostly thread painted and freemotion outlined. The background is actually placed on top of, and around, the outline. It is heavily trapuntoed, for a more realistic effect.

Crazy Quilt - This quilt, like so many crazy quilts, contains many family memories, including a Valentine that belonged to my grandmother, bits of embroidery done by my mother, and designs by all three of my children.
