Tribute to the Slave Lake Firefighters
Name of Maker: Kathleen Mennell
Tribute to the Slave Lake Firefighters - I wanted to make a wallhanging to present to the firefighters which gave of themselves in May in Slave Lake Alberta, Canada to sell prints of or postcards of to make themselves money to help pay for what they may need in the fire dept. The idea of the flames came from Ricky Timms quilting using the freezer paper method. Thankyou Ricky for developing that idea. I will be presenting this to the firefighters in the town in a couple of weeks. I have also had a print made up on canvas for the mayor. The black edge represents the Black Day in History for the town, the images of the animals and birds are the loss of wildlife in the fire, the images of buildings represents the loss of homes and businesses, the images of trees represents the loss of the forest and the image of the helicopter represents the crash of a helicopter and the loss of the pilot. The fireman image represents all of the firefighters who gave of themselves to battle the blaze for days until it was put out. My tribute to all of them who worked tirelessly for hours. I SALUTE THEM ALL. Kathleen Mennell
Floral Dreams
Name of Maker: Connie Earin-Stevens
Floral Dreams - Purple and White log cabin blocks have never looked better!! The quilt blocks were put together on a night of staying up with new grandson to make sure he kept breathing so quilting was my way of dealing with the stress--what a great stress reliever.
Butterfly Dreams
Name of Maker: Connie Earin-Stevens
Butterfly Dreams - I had so much fun piecing this quilt. I used jelly rolls and made 3-D butterflies that matched to the outer boarder. My first original design and my first use of 3-D. I have only been quilting for the last 2yrs. and thanks to my Mother who said"Just take one class, if you don't like it, I will quit bugging you to try and become a quilter" well she created a whole new me with that first class!
Pat's Vision
Name of Maker: Connie Earin-Stevens
Pat's Vision - Batiks made this pattern come alive, the colors just seem to pop off the quilt. I made this quilt for my cousin for her bed and she paired it with black dust ruffle and pillow shams to complete the look. This was my first BQ pattern and I would make more quilts from this pattern.
Cabin by the Lake
Name of Maker: Connie Earin-Stevens
Cabin by the Lake - THis wall hanging was my first attempt at bargello. I took a class from Ann Lauer from Grizzlly Gulch Gallery and was the only one that attempted this design. I used Angelina fibers for the snow on the mountains and on the lights in the windows. This was a very intimadating quilt for me, I got the main quilt done but was afraid to start the free motion quilting next to the raw edges of the appliqued pieces so I entered this piece in our local quilt show so that I would have to finish it, which I did!!!
The Pink Ribbon
Name of Maker: Merryc
The Pink Ribbon - Quilt started in 1-block class study with Sandy Bonsib. Our challenge was to take a grid comprised of one block and design a quilt. The 10 stars represent 10 years since an early diagnose and treatment for an early stage of breast cancer detected in an annual mammogram. This quilt was recently gifted to a friend who was just diagnosed with breast cancer.
Five a Day for Life
Name of Maker: Regena Young
Five a Day for Life - It took several years of collecting veggie fabrics before I had enough to make this project. The blocks were fussy cut so that each vegetable can be identified. The concentric squares are different colors and contain all the veggies I could find for that color. It is a kitchen wall hanging.
