Dear Jane My Way

While she was busy quilting, Mary’s garden grew wi
Name of Maker: Naomi Weidner
While she was busy quilting, Mary’s garden grew wi - I was inspired by pieces I saw at an outdoor art festival to make something using 2-sided tucks. This piece is in response to a challenge in my guild to use a specific green fabric (in the border and behind the upper tucks), with a seasonal theme inspired by a Crayon that came with my challenge fabric. My Crayon was dark blue (which I interpreted as summer, and used behind the lower tucks). My personal challenge for this piece was to incorporate 2-sided tucks. I 2 different flower fabrics for each tuck, and pressed the tucks in different directions to display the fabric on each side. I secured the tucks with beads. The name (While she was busy quilting, Mary’s garden grew wild) was inspired by the children's rhyme Mary, Mary Quite Contrary, and I included quilted silver bells, cockle shells, little maids in a row.

New Confidence
Name of Maker: Karen Boelter
New Confidence - 2009 BOM "Stars for a New Day" This top has inspired new confidence in my skills and abilities. After my husband of 27 years died quite suddenly in June of 2008, I sort of sank into a walking blank of time. Doing this BOM required that I make color decisions constantly, but the actual paper piecing offered enough structure for me to stagger ahead.
Mother's Star
Name of Maker: Linda Swagger and Holly Stephenson
Mother's Star - My mother had pieced the Lonstar and decided she wasn't really happy with the looks of it and put it away. She was cleaning out her closet & decided she wasn't going to do anything with the quilt top, I asked if I could have it. That was April 2009, I decided to applique around the star and machine quilt it for her as a Mother's Day present for her in May. She didn't even realize it was the Lonestar quilt top she had made ( but thought the fabric looked familiar).
