Dexter's I Spy
Name of Maker: Peggie Wormington (Nana)
Dexter's I Spy - I wanted to make an I Spy quilt, but did not want to make the standard hexagon pattern. So I cut the novelty fabrics (multicolored and monotone) into 2.5 inch squares and sorted them into 6 piles - light medium and dark of the multicolored fabrics, and light medium and dark of the monotone fabrics. Then made the Trip Around the World layout and constructed the quilt using 9 patch construction following the specific layout required to get the shading I wanted. There were 12 different 9 patch constructions. When I finished all the 9 patches I realized that I needed a single row down the vertical center and the horizontal center to make the design sparkle. The most difficult part was adding these vertical and horizontal rows as the quilt was in quarters and heavy so it stretched a little. Fortunately, the machine quilter, Eleanor Johnson was able to bail me out and the quilt came out great!!!

No Schlafen, schlafen
Name of Maker: Peggie Wormington
No Schlafen, schlafen - I made this quilt developed around the wonderful wolf fabric. I loved the way the wolves were running through the woods and wanted to echo this in the piecing so the viewer would have the sensation that the wolves were running out of the quilt toward the viewer. I used " tree fabrics" in the upper part of the quilt and " snow fabrics" in the lower part of the quilt to reinforce the emergence of the wolves through the woods. I named this quilt "No schlafen, schlafen" for my walking friend Laila Wulff Weil a lover of wolveswho walks through the woods twice daily to meet me to walk. "No schlafen" means "Don't be lazy!"
Greek Isle Cruise
Name of Maker: Kimberly Einmo
Greek Isle Cruise - The quilt is made up of two easy blocks -- the Greek Key and Ocean Waves blocks. I used commercial batiks that capture the beauty and allure of the Mediteranean Ocean. When the blocks are set side by side, an intricate secondary pattern emerges.
