Pegonhiltonhead You Go Girls - For our Hilton Head Island Celebration 350-30, the Camera Club and our Palmetto Quilt Guild teamed up to do a photo/quilt side-by-side exhibit. John Parsons' picture of the Marsh Tacky Cup Race on Hilton Head Island shows Molly ridden by Brittany Bowen flying, with all four feet off the ground, across the finish line - winning the 2011 Marsh Tacky Cup. In the photograph the spectators are blurred and it adds to the sense of speed. I printed the spectators onto fabric and used it in the quilt. The horse, rider and people are fused applique, the sky is paper pieced and the sand uses Karen Eckmeier's wave technique. All are densely quilted. I always loved the picture - now I enjoy seeing the quilt as part of our Celebration exhibit - Hilton Head Island; Flora, Fauna, Friends and Fun.
