My First Sampler

My First Sampler - Our LQS has a unique $10 quilt club. For $10 at the beginning of the year and as long as the block shown is completed by the next month, at the end of year you end up with a top. Sometimes, you need to add your own fabric. I added the fabrics for the borders, the hour glass blocks and the tan/white/red squares in the largest lower block. The design is always original and the designer, JoLyn Buhl, works to strengthen a set of quilting skills. The theme this year was learning a variety of piecing an applique techniques. I quilted this project on my domestic machine and used over 3,000 yards of Superior's Masterpiece and King Tut as well as YLI silk and invisible thread. I used Ricky Tim's technique to apply a piped binding. For more photos check my blog: http://www.thequiltshow.com/os/myblog_edit.php/customers_blog_id/11895
