Relay for Life-Quilt of Hope - My friends sister who is battling cancer was entering a team in the "Cancer Relay for Life" fundraiser. I agreed to help raise donations for the team and I would make her a team banner. The banner kept growing until it became a quilt which I dedicated to the memory of my mother who lost her battle with the dreaded disease two years prior. This was finished the day before the fundraiser and I still had to make the banner. It was my first time paper-piecing. The ribbons which represent some of the different types of cancers and the daffodils which is the cancer flower were paper pieced. Mom loved butterflies so I bought and appliqued them on. To me they represented "hope" that someday we would have a cure. I also appliqued the symbol and motto for Relay for Life.
