marilynrsmithquilts Persia - I made Persia for the 2009 New Quilts From an Old Favorite Contest sponsored by the National Quilt Museum. This year's block pattern was Burgoyne Surrounded. I redrafted the block so that it would be skewed, pieced it, cut it out to the desired shapes, machine appliqued it and added the original center applique. The quilting on the background is all original paisley patterns that are made with machine decorative stitches. The paisley motifs are filled in with a grid pattern. A pebble pattern is the background for the paisley motifs. Quilting on the flower motif is free motion pebbles, "head bands" and straight lines. The quilting took a very long time to complete. The colors of this quilt are rather unconventional, but I think they make a statement.
