Design Source - Description | When I first read about this challenge, I was so touched that I could help in a very small way by purchasing the required fabric for the Helping Hands Challenge. When the fabric arrived, I was impressed by the gorgeous texture and color and the personal information I received about the fabric maker. Deciding to use only the challenge fabrics and keeping with an African theme, I chose to use an African Adinka symbol, “Fawohodie” which is a symbol for “independence”. The Fabric for Life Program has tremendously helped these women to better their lives by creating a way for independency. I didn’t want to forget this so I created this image in this small quilt. I also would like to give thanks to Sylvia Davis who recently presented a trunk show about African Quilts at my local Guild meeting which included explaining the Adinka symbols. I didn't make the deadline for the Challenge, but wanted to post it anyway.... |
