Phase Shift

Phase Shift - A desire to use some of the luscious fabric I dyed in Elin Noble's 2007 Quilting By the Lake Shibori workshop inspired this depiction of lunar phases. Experimenting with reverse appliquilting to create multiple 'windows' in the quilt presented a challenge to precisely align the front and back, which is also pieced. There are five layers in all but the single-layer 'windows', with one of the layers being cotton canvas to maintain the shape of the edges. Definitely not a candidate for hand quilting! Photography by artist.
