Design Source - Description | Paper pieced insects and spider in modified attic windows. This was made as a gift to friends of my father for Allie, their grand-daughter. Allie is very interested in bugs. My father, who sewed only a little but was an engineer, grasped the concept of paper piecing immediately and designed all the bugs. The legs and antennae were done with satin stiching and speciality machine stitches. The eyes are beads (my father's idea and the gaudier the better). I made a smaller quilt with some of the same blocks as a momento for him (also shown in My Quilts). I like the 3D nature of the window frame but would use higher contrast next time. |
