northwind Sunflower - Fabrics for sunflower and leaves were handpainted by the quiltmaker in Phil Beaver's class in 2002, and his petal and leaf motifs were used in the quiltmaker's own adaptation. Pieces were raw edged appliqued by machine and quilting in the background mimic the flora of the black on black fabric. My first sunflower was appliqued on a hobo bag finished in 2005.
