Southern Hawker

Southern Hawker - This was based on a photo of a Southern Hawker Dragonfly which visited my pond in 2006, and spent quite a lot of time laying eggs. I could get near enough for a good photo. The body of the insect was painted first on silk, then heavily machine embroidered, then appliqued and padded, the wings are machine embroidered plastic to give the transparent effect needed. There is a lot of machine embroidery. The irises in the background are the three colours in my pond, and are machine embroidered.
