Design Source - Description | We have a pond on my mother's property here in Kirtland, NM. When my nephew used to come visit he loved to be out in the pond. YUK. One day when he was with me at Santa Fe Quilting in Santa Fe he found this batik that he just loved. He called it Pond Scum. He just couldn't understand why we wouldn't make him a shirt out of the material. He would wear it when he was in the pond. I got this idea to make him a quilt and call it Pond Scum. I picked out the "scummiest" greens I could find and I even over-dyed some fabric. There are frogs and parts of frogs appliqued on the quilt. The frogs are indigenous to Kirtland. The backing is the orginal Pond Scum batik! We all now live in Kirtland, the pond is still "scummy" and even now that Jonathan is 17 years old he still loves the pond! There is a picture of backing in MY PHOTOS. |
