Design Source - Description | My son wanted a scrappy quilt so he set about collecting over 130 1/8th yard cuts of mixed fabrics that struck his fancy. There are oriental, aunt Gracie's, contemporary, and many more fabrics. I saw this pattern as an antique quilt hanging on a door in a book by Kaffe Fassett and set to work designing a workable pattern. It was called a handkerchief block quilt, and is basically a half square log cabin. Since so many of the fabrics were oriental I chose this layout, because it resembles fish scales. I worked with the quilter, Sally Black, to use a loosely based baptist fan design with a dragon fly in the center square of each block. My son was thrilled with the outcome and uses the quilt all the time. |
