This week's puzzle, Positive Energy 4 - was created using Karen's "layered Curves and Peaks" technique.

“Layered Curves" (aka Layered Waves) makes curves faster and easier to do than curved piecing and unlike the raw edges in fabric collage, the edges in “Layered Curves” are neat and tidy.  It is also the subject of her books  "Layered Waves" (2009) and "Wearable Waves" (2012). Dramatic angles and points can be also be made using this technique, which contrast beautifully with the flowing lines.

Sheila created Electric Faerie of the Getty Garden for the International Quilt Festival Special Exhibit: Good for You 2011.  This was an international juried and judged exhibition of art quilts where the theme was Good for You - as in, "what's good for you? Chocolate, wine, video games? As long as the quilt spoke to the theme, it was acceptable.

Since Alex is off to one of Rosalie Dace's classes, we thought we'd share one of Rosalie's quilts, Awake my Soul, as the puzzle for this week.  To see more of Rosalie's quilts on her website, click here.

You can also learn more about Rosalie in Episode 711: Quilting: Where Imagination and Reality Meet: Featuring Rosalie Dace, Jennifer Chiaverini and Michael Cummings.

From Rosalie:

Description: This quilt is one of my series based on the sun and the magic and mystery of our universe. Here I used the image of the sun to reflect the somewhat difficult phase my work had been through. I knew I simply had to get warmth and light back in my creative life.

Dimensions: 106cm x 119cm

Materials: Commercial and hand-dyed cotton, silk, sheers.
Machine pieced, machine and hand appliquéd, machine quilted

A wonderful quilt from Ruth McDowell graces our puzzle this week.  Ruth says,

As far as I am aware, the chicken fanciers haven't developed a chicken with really BLUE feathers, so I invented one, with a checkerboard back, no less. She seems to be saying, "But wait!..."

This quilt measures 20.5" x 16.5" and available for purchase on her website. Click here to visit, www.ruthbmcdowell.com.
