Guilt??? How about we agree that after this large purge, we will share an older magazine with someone every time we get a new one, either by subscription or a purchase?

Work for you? Works for me!!!

Books, to me, are a horse of a different color. I have been using that strategy to manage my books for several years, after I shared a large stack of them with new quilters.

In the meantime, is anyone going to be able to clear out some magazines by JULY 24th???

Are you talking to me????

I have been thinking that really I'm NOT going to go back to 25 yr old Quilter's Newsletter magazines. And with all the projects I have purchased that are waiting for my time.... why do I think I need more inspiration????????????????

:smacks head:

So, I have 5 days? I'm thinking of clearing off a lot of bookshelves to the burn pile. I don't want to look at them until guild next month. Is that bad to not give them away? I know others would take them. *sigh*

i was given a few bags of mags by a friend about this time last year - in january i finally pulled everything out - those bags - all my piles - all my binders - went through each and every one - dumped loads and loads - those i kept are all sorted according to season and subject in binders on one shelf. the only subscription i now have is The Quilt Life (which i discovered for the first time last december and subsribed to 2 months ago - so certainly not yet ready to pass that on)...

i don't buy a lot of quilt mags - i find that many of the local ones are very often repeats of what was shown in the US mags a year earlier - except for the art quilt ones as many quilters here just don't have the traditional history ...

but the good mags are very very very expensive here, which automatically limits the purchase numbers (bought 3 last summer at the train statin in gothenburg for the train journey to stockholm - 2 at a trainstation in switzerland in december (The Quilt Life and a german one "Patchwork Professional" which is really much more into art quilts and new ideas - click on the mag to see a few sample pages http://www.patchwork-professional.de/?p=startseite ).

That first issue of The Quilt Life is actually where i discovered this website, the TQS show & ALL OF YOU - just about the best purchase i ever made !!!

by the end of the month, i have to clear out old books / comics / clothing and whatever else i can do without - the mags that are here now are staying a little while longer

I'm a packrat, so I'm not ready for this challenge yet. I still love my magazines, even though I don't look through them very often. But when I do, I really enjoy all of the ideas. My book library is even more extensive (I have more books than my guild...), but I love those also and when I'm too tired to quilt I love to leaf through them. I'm one of those strange people who has read all of the text in all of my books except for the instructions for the individual projects. I'm always looking for new ideas and new explanations of how to do things! (One of the reasons I've fallen in love with this site!)

I don't get piecing magazines anymore since I have enough of them. But I'm now getting quilting magazines (like Machine Quilters Unlimited) since that's the area where I'm concentrating at the moment.

(But don't send me your extra magazines. I have enough and I do have limited space....)

Margo, "A day late and a Dollar short". I gave away a bunch of my older magazines last year. Still have all my Quilters Newsletter magazines, which are schedule to be given away this year, just do not have time this month.

Okay, I'm slow....does that mean you do not buy or peruse magazines....how do you get your patterns or inspirations for your projects?

Donna, there are thousands of free pattern designs on the Internet and enough inspiration to keep us all busy for a lifetime!

I still look at magazines in the store, and if something peaks my interest, I will buy it. For the most part I have found in the past couple of years that the magazines are pretty much recycling ideas and they are getting thinner. So for me it isn't worth the 1-2 yr subscription for a few ideas. I also use the internet, local library, and my EQ 7 for ideas and new techniques, like TQS :D . At the moment I have plenty of projects to keep me going.

Yes, Bonnie Hunter's site is inspirational! Problem is now I can't get rid of any scraps at all! I have been putting all my scraps into a lovely round basket - but the cat jumped in the other day, circled it several times, pawed everything until it was just so and then lay down in there. She now thinks it's her bed and is not pleased when I put the lid on which I do every evening. So when the lid comes off as soon as I start work she pounces straight in. I guess it's better than sitting on the quilt I am making!

A great site for free patterns for using up your scraps is Bonnie Hunter's Quiltville:

Oooooh! That's a great blogspot. :) I wonder are the magazines we get here in Europe (Ireland to be precise) the same as the ones you have in America? Maybe we could do a magazine exchange! No, I am only joking. ;)

Margo, does it count if I put about 30 magazines into a box, take them out of the house and put the box in the garage till mid-August. I could to that at the weekend. :)

ABSOLUTELY! :D Show us a picture of the hole you've cleared, or the pile you've made!! :D
