Introducing the 2013 TQS Block of the Month designed by Sue Nickels and Pat Holly! It's called "TWO OF US" and was created by the two of them. The quilt measures 79" x 79" and was completed just in time for Houston.

TOPIC: Hallelujah!

Deborah Kemball said to us once: "Quilting with wool batting is like quilting thru butter" (talking about hand quilting).
I enjoy the loft, the softness. And you are right, it is lighter to carry under a home sewing machine.

Beautiful quilt!
I really enjoyed using wool batting because of the ease with which my quilting needles "slid" through it. I found it very light and really easy to hand quilt and have used several times.

Connie/Rita, For what it's worth, I loved using wool batting the one time I used it. I like how it looks and I like the weight of it. I didn't even think about how light the entire massive thing really was because it was the largest quilt I ever did using my domestic machine and I had other considerations on my mind. The wool batting adds such little weight to the entire thing. I think it is easier for aging arms and shoulders to deal with larger quilts. The other thing I loved was that after I washed it in my washing machine on the gentle cycle I laid it flat on the floor under a ceiling fan and the entire thing was dry in 2 hours. I will use it often.

Connie I have had the wool batting for it since I started to make it. It is just waiting patiently for me to get around to it. I am feeling a lot more confident about it now. I just have two other quilts to quilt first. Good luck with entering shows, I hope it wins.

Wendy, I just made the entry deadline yesterday for the AQS show in Albuquerque, New Mexico in January. Let's keep our fingers crossed that it gets accepted into the show!

Oh Connie, it's magnificent, congratulations. I still haven't quilted mine - fear has been stopping me. You have given me heart and hope. Thanks for posting a photo.

Rita, a suggestion for when you do quilt yours...use wool batting! This quilt was the first time I had tried using wool, and I LOVED it! Many hours were spent on the quilting, and that wonderful loft from the wool made sure that I "got credit" for it. The quilting shows up beautifully, and the feather sprays almost look like trapunto. Well worth the extra cost.

Andree, how is YOUR quilting coming along?
I put it aside for a while... too many projects to finish (with a targetdate - I'm teaching this fall) and this one needs so much time...

But I'll get back on it around december... hopefully!
