Of course they count--we get to know what you like from looking at those pictures--it makes you more real.

 surprising what people can find out about you on the Internet! We all know better than to mention "going on vacation" on sites like Facebook,.. There've been home burglaries coinciding with a family member posting that they are going on a trip! But I'm now thinking that holds true even for safe-feeling places like here. Hackers never stop trying to break into systems they have no business accessing.
But I WOULD like to put some info into my Profile here, it's just that I always use DH's iPad, and i can't get into profile setup on an iPad. In fact, I just saw someone's profile, very nice, and thereby discovered Profiles can be very personalized, lol. Note to Webmaster, iPads and "drop down list menus" don't play well together. The "list" closes before the fastest finger can tap an item in the list! Guess I'll have to chain myself to the PC, stay in one chair in one room, gasp, and update my profile that way. 8)

I too have that problem with my iPad, but have recently discovered you can get to the page/drop down sections by scrolling way down to the bottom of the page on 'The Daily Blog'. All the various sections of the site are listed there.

Thanks for that tip Nan! Sure enough, TQS was nice enough to put all those wonderful links at the bottom of the page! I updated my profile a bit, got some non-quilt photos up. Those prolly don't "count", do they?

Awhile back I had posted a picture of a quilt to the Quilt Gallery called Love Always (by designer Lori Smith) also put it in My Account Profile images. I have my profile set to members only. Maybe when I posted the pix I didn't have it set to members only, I can't remember.

This week I was thinking of making another Lori Smith quilt and happened to search Love Always quilt and also Lori Smith quilts in Google Images and there was a picture of my quilt from TQS! I was very surprised. I had assumed it would only be on TQS.

In Google Images when I clicked on the pix it it showed the whole quilt gallery page as if you were looking at it from the TQS site. Including my membership name and everybody's quilt that happened to be on the gallery page with mine. I went into My TQS Profile page and deleted the pix just to see what would happen. Now on Google Images it just shows a small pix of my quilt and if I click on it it just says quilt not found.

Now I just did the same on Yahoo Images and it shows a pix of my quilt and underneath it says "Seattlebarbara2003 presents Love Always quilt added on 10/19 and / and if you click on it the picture goes to the TQS website page showing my membership name but says quilt not found (because I deleted it).

I guess I'm just surprised because I assumed I was posting to TQS only and not to Google and Yahoo. Not a big deal, just interesting.

Thanks for your attention to this!
Maybe the Forum could be only for members?

btw, had to laugh when I saw what comes up on Google for romira...a restaurant in Mich. & a software company...and 1 random posting on the forum

and a reminder to members: as far as the Profile privacy issue...that's done by unchecking the box on Profile page (a bit below whatever photo you have uploaded) that says "Make visible to Public?"

I us the same name tag on ebay and when I typed in patchworkjill all my ebay reviews came up for everyone to read, have to say I am a bit surprised, and also all my comments on the forum came up even though I have my profile marked as private.

Anne--I was interested that you had hits when you Googled your screen name... so I thought I'd see what I got. I typed in "clhdabb" and was asked "do you mean CHUBB?" . Then pages and pages of "CHUBB" stuff rolled out. Ok, maybe I'm too sensitive, but I'll never do that again~ :|

private site or not 23 Nov 2008 14:19 #28846

I googled my screen name and came up with five or six hits. No picture with any of them and three or four were for Margo's website where the BOM's were posted and that is all that showed. I have made many more comments on the website to the forum and the blogs (both member blogs and daily blog) than that and have always listed my blogs and quilts so they could be seen by non members. None of those showed up so I guess I am not going to worry about it. I have two yahoo names and belong to a number of yahoo groups and one of those names came up more often than snowplow did. So all in all I don't think I am going to worry too much about it. Ann

Google has my profile picture and Yahoo has a comment that I made on what kind of challenge I would like to see. I appreciate Guru Bob checking out what is happening! I sure like to have our site private for our TQS members. Terry

Thanks for all the comments 21 Nov 2008 22:05 #28790

It does make you stop and think, doesn't it?

I'm computer savvy enough to know that the 'net is not really private, ie, I know that any site I access records my id and can track my location based on that. I also know that whatever you publish on the web lives forever. Years ago, I wrote for suite101.com; the articles are still there and have been quoted on other sites.

I just thought that it was weird that even with my profile set as private, the thumbnails were showing up on another website. That's the glitch that caught my attention.

I have worked under exteme surviellance (a casino) for many years, so I always assume someone is watching me. We've had a computer for years and I have always assumed that nothing I "put out there" is totally private.

Well, using my nickname, I appear to be a parrot......... I guess it could be worse. :)

I have never even tried to stay 'private' because I live within easy walking distance of my place of work. About 1600 kids (11 to 18) potentially know where I live, and over 100 staff. And all of them are computer literate. I actually think that I'm more 'private' with my nickname here than with my real name where I live.
