I use Bottom Line from Superior for piecing in lt. gray, dk. gray, or beige.

I like So Fine in either gray or biege for piecing. I found I get less lint with it than I did with Masterpiece.

I like Maderia! However, I'm currently using YLI Softouch and it's working beautifully. :) I like Masterpiece and Bottomline too but the latter doesn't always fill the spool evenly and then it's a fiddle to refill it onto another spool.

I like Aurifil (the orange-colored cone) thread in neutral colors.

Currently using varieties of Superior and Aurifil. I've others to use up so i can buy more colors !

I hear you, I have a drawer full of mettler 50 weight in many colors that I am working on using up! The local quilt shops carry mostly Mettler. Quilters' Studio does carry other threads but they are somewhat of a drive for me.

I have used 60 wt presencia and it was a very nice thread but they don't carry it locally so I don't have it very often.

There is also a 60 wt thread by Presencia that I have never seen, but I understand it is made for piecing. Has anyone used that one?

I was recommended Belgian Sewing Thread cortal 120, by an excellent independant sewing machine sales & repairs man who has a shop in Banbury and really like how it sews. It comes in 1000m spools, and I can buy it mail order from them (or make a trip to Banbury when visiting my parents)

The e-mail for the Belgian Sewing Thread company is http://www.bst.sales@bst.be

PS how did you get on with your pincushion?

Thank you very much for all your input - I think we'll have a look at both Masterpiece and Aurifil. Much appreciated :)

I use MasterPiece, Bottom Line, So Fine and Aurifil as my mood is, but I must say that I love the polyester threads very much. They are so thin that you can make a perfect 1/4" seam every time

I use the Aurifil for piecing and love it, but now I am also going to have to try Masterpiece. Lois
