TOPIC: What about a BOM for Machine Embroidery??

03 Jan 2010 17:12 #41831

the colour of the dongle is dependant on the version of software you have not the machine. The version normally bundled with machines is generally Editor Lite, very simple, not many features and you have to link up to the computer with you machine to use, not send and disconnect! Editor Plus is the next one up retails around £499 and has quite a lot of features (one I have!) blue dongle with that one! Top of tyhe range is Designer Plus, around £1000, load of features!!!! On my wish list! wink:

Hi Amanda, OK what I have is the blue dongle from the 440QE. And the CD's are: Artista 200/730 Sewing and embroidery basics (CD1) and (CD2) New, fascinating features. Instructional Presentation. Also another disk: Embroidery Software - Artlink - Version 5.
I am going to take these to work tommorow and play with them. My job lets me do that as long as I keep the clients and my boss happy.

I do get a lot of computer work done during the day which is why I love this job.

I have to temember to go to the class I signed up for at the quilters university.

So did you get the dingle with the new machine? Do I have to call up and say: where is my white dingle? :?

you can register on the usa site and go to support, they have downloads for all sorts of problems, so dont worry about it not being uk. Now, I have 630 not 730, but they should still work the same as 730 not new model. let me know what you did!

Hi Amanda
You have Editor Lite by the looks of it, it comes with a white dongle. Now, I had that with my 440, it was loaded onto my laptop running xp and it worked. Then I upgraded to Editor Plus, that comes with blue dongle, the software will NOT work without it. I am running Vista and it works on my machine.

Hi Norina, which version of Editor came with your 730? I have a dongle, but it's a white one and the box that did manage to come up on the screen asked for me to insert a blue one. Not sure if the same stuff is on them or if I have a different version of that too.

Amanda,
I just picked up my 730E last thursday during the storm. It was in custom's for a week.In washington d.c. Finally have it in my studio.
My new laptop had vista which did not work with Bernina. So I had the Windows7 installed. That was not too compatable so I went for the Professionl Windows7.

Finally everything is in place am I am going to try to get something accomplished besides shoveling the snow outside. We had a lot of snow this weekend. About 6-8 inches.

Did you get a dongle with your 730? I did not but still have the one from the 440QE that I forgot to turn in.

It looks like you don't need the dongle for the 730? Who knows?

Hi Susan! The wine is working and I'm glad I've put everything away, or it might learn to fly out of the window.  I've looked all over on line and can not actually find a patch at the moment.

I will be phoning Bernina UK tomorrow, but I won't be holding my breath. The UK website is dire compared to the US one. A bit like a one page leaflet compared to War and Peace. I can't join the US website as I don't have a valid US address to put in and they don't seem to have other countries covered, hence we have the pretty useless UK site instead. Circles, circles!!!

Anyway, something will out in the end. We'll see what they say tomorrow. Hopefully enough people have complaned over here that they might have the answer.

Amanda, I don't have Vista, but in the back of my head, I remember people talking about a patch. Is your dealer any help? How about Bernina technical assistance? There is a Yahoo groups for Artista that may have some information as well.

OK, have just gone through the whole Editor Lite V4 not working with Vista thing. This machine I bought in May, not even 8 months and it's not compatable. I guess Bernina are on yet another money spinner again (and I don't believe in the Microsoft problem, everything else has had a patch if it's not compatable, Vista is hardly the new kid on the block now).

I have since dusted off an old laptop with XP on it to run the thing on but the CD driver is defunct. Now waiting on a delivery of external drive to run the CD.

I could understand if the machine and software were a few years old but they're not!! If I went to a shop tomorrow and bought a 730, what software would come with it??

Very, very peed off in UK! (I an now going to put the roast in the oven, open a bottle of wine and sit and read through JoJo's web site!)

Amanda you make me laugh :)

The manual for your 730 embroidery module is in back of your Bernina owner's manual. If you have software, most of the documentation is in the help file. Did you load your Artista Editor into your computer?

Busy, we understand! I hope you are having a great holiday.

Great job. Are you going to quilt it block by block or quilt it whole?

A great big DUH for me. My problem was trying to capture the photo from the pdf. I should know better.

Great job. I went back to designing crazy patches for the Xmas quilt...attempting to discipline myself to keep to one project at a time.

I just posted a picture of my first stitch-out for January in Show and Tell. The actual applique is 10 1/2 inches, but there is enough fabric around it to cut the block to size. I may try to increase the size, but have fine-tuned the file & don't want to screw it up. The next ones should stitch-out lots faster. Yesterday was a long day of learning. Today is a day of a long nap.

Tip: If you are digitizing & need the artwork, if you click on the picture next to the link for the monthly directions, a larger jpeg pops up, then right click and save. This avoids the need to scan for artwork.

I did a preliminary attempt to digitize Sue Garman's design for January. It can be done but will take two hoopings in the Bernina Jumbo hoop to complete for a 14x14 square to finish as a 12x12 block. This is for the Hugs & Kisses applique quilt. To begin I scanned the photo from the pdf as a jpeg into artwork and then digitized the basic shapes. Then it becomes a matter of duplicating, mirror imaging, placement, etc.

I never intended to begin this BOM but now I'm hooked to see if I can do it. I guess I feel the need to justify the purchase of the 830 and Designer Plus V6. While I'm funding these purchases by trade-ins and selling off stuff I don't need or use, I still need to justify why I require these new techno tools.

Back to work. I've still got a few blocks to design for the 2010 Xmas Quilt.
