Betty Jo,
I do have a question. Is the architectural exhibit at Festival juried? Is there a limit on how many pieces they accept? Will the parameters be the same for 2013 as they are now? Okay that's 3 questions. I've never submitted anything to a venue like this so I just want to understand. Thanks.

It is a juried exhibit,,,, I do not know if there is a limit on how many pieces they accept, but it's probably 2, as are most such exhibits. I suspect, but do not know, that the parameters will still be the same for 2013. They weren't very severe parameters except it said not less than 25 inches.

And then, you should know that you don't HAVE to enter the exhibit to participate in Teri's and my challenge, but we thought if you wanted to, this would give you a place to go with your finished quilt beyond a photograph here. We are kind of thinking of writing an article for something somewhere at the end.

And our parameters are written in such a way that we think most shows will take your quilt except AQS Paducah, because for some inexplicable reason they have a gap in their acceptable sizing between miniature quilts of less than 25" and the next acceptable size of 40" width. Since this is a size I frequently work in, it leaves me scratching my head in puzzlement. The other AQS shows accept within that size however. Hope this helps.

I thought I would put the parameters here so you don't have to go to another link to find them.

Just for fun: Architectural Quilt Off!
Have you often been inspired by beautiful architecture or architectural elements you see in the world, on the floors of some large building, or pictures from history? If the answer is, “yes” then please join Betty Jo Tatum and Teri Lucas in an architectural quilt-off!
No prizes will be awarded, this is just for fun!

Here are the guidelines:
• Design and create a small wall art quilts around 25” x 40” or 40” x 25” (no smaller) and does not have to have 90 degree corners and straight edges, but should be approximately that size
• Must be a completely original design
• Can be pieced, appliquéd, painted, or whole cloth
• Must be machine or hand quilted by the originator(s)
• The deadline is April 10th 2013.
• Make the entire quilt on your own or pair with a friend for even more fun
• Share your adventure in making this quilt and show your quilt somewhere on The Quilt Show
• Please consider entering your quilt into the special exhibit at Houston International Quilt Festival in 2013. Here’s the link for the 2012 show (entry is now closed for 2012):

I replied to you privately, Betty Jo, so you know I'm in for this. I think it will light a creative fire for me. :)

Yes, this will be exciting. By the way, we changed the parameters to include hand quilting if you are so inclined.

check out Teri's blog: http://terificreations.wordpress.com/ or mine:

We gave our version there of the challenge. If you want to make something a different size that's ok. It can be totally just for fun or you can decide to enter it into the architectural special quilt contest. While it's all for fun, we have thought about putting the results all together in an article or something in the end.

Hi. She is LittleFlower community/my-profile/littleflower Teri Lucas. She is a friend of mine I only know through TQS and we read each other's blogs. She wrote a blog one day about the beauty and inspiration of architecture, and I challenged her to an architectural quilt off, and then we decided to bring our other TQS friends into the challenge just for fun. See? :D

I think I will join in BJ, I've got a really good inspiration from a holiday in France a few years ago. I could do it as smaller pieces monthly or so that will make up a whole. :D
