Norma, that rose quilt is stunning! I totally agree with everyone else, it was worth the effort :)

Charae, thank you for posting those photos :) Just like Renata, I'm getting some ideas already. I'll have to make somenthing like that for my kids. I'm going to look for Gwen's book. I have several of her Liberated Quilmaking books and took 2 of her workshops a couple of years ago in Springfield, MO. She's a great teacher! On my bucket list is attending one of her retreats at Beaver Island.

Charae - Your books are beautiful! I can understand why they are popular, even as the kids grow up. What wonderful memories to keep forever and pass on to the next generation. Can you imagine having these books about your parents or grandparents? What fun!!

Norma! Your rose is beautiful! My photo fabrics usage was inspired by Gwen Marston's "Fabric Picture Books". A few years ago I started making an 8 - 12 page fabric book for the each of the family babies for Christmas. I quickly found out that they were interested for longer periods of time if their pictures were included. As you can see by the attachments some are no longer babies, but they still expect to have a fabric book each Christmas showing some of their activities during the year. I have used fabric sheets previously with varied results. I thank all of you for your responses to my question. I think both twill and poplin rolls deserve a try this year and a side by side comparison. :)

You may have had troubles, but your Rose turned out spectacular! Well worth the effort!!

Based on someone's suggestion in another topic, I got a roll of cotton and a roll of silk from Amazon, but I haven't even opened them yet. They are just waiting for a new project sometime. Sorry, I'm not any help, either!

So beautiful Norma - thank goodness it worked out in the end.

As for what to use Charae, I have used the Colorfast Printable paper and that was good but it is a very tight weave and the machine needle had to work hard to get through it. I have also used commercial cotton which I ironed onto freezer paper and that is much easier to quilt afterwards. But without the Bubblejet stuff it would not be permanent I guess. Sorry, I am absolutely no use to you here. But sure it's nice to have a chat anyway. :D

I don't know the exact product but I recently used the fine 240 thread count from EQ printables. I guess that is very much like poplin. It gives a fine photo, but in my case I had a surprise. I had made a white/cream rose in four sections and when I sewed them together the white seam allowance was clearly shining through. I had to put black fabric under each section to get rid of it, but it worked. Another problem occurred when I came to the quilting. I used a piece of poplin for the backing and promised myself to never do that again. The fabrics are so tight, that the needle has to knock itself through the fibers. I guess I tried 5 different needles before I could accept the backside and it's not perfect.
Well, I guess I have to show you the quilt now, so here it is

Charae, I just received 1 roll of each and the silk also, haven't used any of them yet. The poplin is smoother and thinner. The twill is thicker and with a textured surface, looks like the threads run on the diagonal. It'll depend on what finish you're looking for. Hope this helps :)

I haven't used either, but am wondering...isn't poplin a smoother finish? with twill having some texture?
Depending on image (faces, for example) I would want smooth.
Will check into it.

OK, you TQS-aholics-- Probably the wrong place to post this, but I am interested in getting photo fabric a'la Brian Haggard. Blumenthal Lansing sells rolls of both 100% cotton poplin and 100% cotton twill. Does anyone have any experience with either of these or an opinion about which to use? I use 8.5 x 11" sheets of photo fabric to make memory books for the little ones in my family every year. The sheets are OK, but fabric rolls make more sense to me. I just don't know whether to twill or poplin!
Thanks from yet another TQS-aholic!
