If you win one of the big ribbons at Paducah, you have a choice. You can take the prize money (which is big bucks) and have your quilt become part of the museum collection, or you can keep your quilt and the ribbon, but not the money.
That's why it's called a purchase prize
Okay, I hadn't really thought about Connie's questions before because my stuff is not ready for juried entry anywhere. At this point, I'm just "filling up my tool belt" and improving my skills. But if a quilter has a quilt that looks like it just might be an out of the ordinary prize winner she/he wouldn't want it to appear first in Paducah. If you left your quilt at the museum you couldn't enter it in any other shows. Right? Hadn't thought about it but I guess there would be a hierarchy of kinds of shows and entering quilts in them requires educating yourself about them. Following Sherry Reynold's blogg last year gave me a peak into having a quilt make the circuit. Well, I don't have to think about all that because at this point the place I am hoping to head with my stuff is the county fair. From the viewers standpoint, I guess the Paducah show would be one of the best places to see quilts that have been winning prizes all over the place. Is that right?
