TOPIC: Ricky Tims...

09 Feb 2009 21:00 #32189

I Love Ricky and Alex. I once told Alex if I got my book published that I would have her autograph it and she was so kind and said that she would be counting on it and this meant alot to me but I didn't get my book published but I haven't given up just yet! I think they both are wonderful friends to have. They fill TQS with never ending Inspiration. Alex & Ricky are both great teachers and they share other great teachers in the world.

Thank You Ricky, Alex, Justin ,John, TQS staff, sponcers, photographers, all TQS friends, and to all the teachers that have been great guest.

Since I am friends with Meemaw and Pawpaw, I can tell you that Ricky is a perfect blend of his parents. His Dad (Pawpaw) is the perfectionist in the family. And Meemaw (his Mom) is the kind gentle and creative spirit in the family. They are wonderful people and I feel so privileged to claim them as my friends. Actually I knew them and Aunt Jimmie before I caught on that the Caveman Quilter that I loved on Simply Quilts was their son. Families are sometimes convuluted and you wonder what happened. No problem with this family, you know who they are and where they came from. I never got to meet Granny but I am sure I would have loved her too. So TRIBUTES TO RICKY TIMS FAMILY, YOU RAISED A SUPERCALIFRASTICEXPEALDOSIOUS SON. Love and Hugs, Ann And PS if you ever need hep ( the Texas word for help) Just call on them because they will be there in a heart beat if they can.

I'm star-struck just like the rest of you. I was so disappointed, actually mad when they took Simply Quilts off the air but it lead to the best show around. I first remember seeing Ricky at the 2001 Houston show when he played and talked about his quilts at one of the luncheons. I was just beginning to get started into quilting then but his music captured my heart. It still does. In 2007, I was honored to take the Super Seminar with Ricky, Alex and Libby and be one of the helpers setting up. As everyone has said, he is one of the kindest, gentlest, most polite, (him Momma raisied him up right, as we way in Texas :D ) and muli-talented men that I have ever meant. His LeVeta Seminar or show is on my wish list for someday too.....

I met Alex a couple of years ago at the Houston Quilt Show. She spent 20 minutes talking to my then 13 year old about quilting. She was just so wonderful! She told my daughter about writing to the President of the Bernina company and telling him how she is a brand new quilter and a little bit of how she and I quilt together. HE SENT HER A MACHINE!!!! Yep! My daughter got a Bernina in the mail with a lovely note from him telling her to enjoy her quilting journey. All thanks to Alex. We are so very blessed to have these two people in the quilting community. They inspire as well as teach.
A big thank you to Ricky and Alex for all that they do!!!

I spent a bit of time wondering where Alex Anderson and Simply Quilts disappeared to and then one day last year I heard that Alex was doing a Bernina show in Reno. My BF Sandy and I went to check it out and heard from Alex all about TQS, enjoyed the wonderful presentation that day and got to meet her and show her some photos of a quilt I had done from one of the SQ shows. I was struck that day with how approachable she is and a genuine, happy person. Sandy and I talked about joining TQS and logged on to watch the free show to check it out. Well I was very disappointed because our computer was not up to the task. After a while I began talking up a new Mac computer because I was tired of all the spam & junk mail I got repeatedly on our old one. So after much discussion DH and I decided to upgrade to an iMac and I began to learn my way around it very fast. Alex had super seminar brochures there in Reno that day and Sandy and I decided to go to Mesa to check it out. After going to the super seminar in Mesa, AZ this past Dec I was eager to join TQS and did just as soon as I got home. The rest is evident in my loving everything about the wonderful community of people who are TQS members. Meeting Ricky, Alex and Libby Lehman in Arizona was super and the creative juices started flowing from that day forward as a whole new day presented itself to me. Thanks to all involved with TQS-your the greatest.

I, like many, came to TQS because I was missing Alex after the demise of simply quilts. I loved her personality (but have found I enjoy her so much more here at TQS). Along the way I fell in love with Ricky as well (truthfully I barely remember him from his Simply Quilts appearance), but he comes across as a kind, caring, humorous person who loves to share his love of art, quilting and music with others, and nurture them along in the process. I am an Alex and Ricky groupie, no doubt about that. I've never been lucky enough to meet either of them, but would love to do so someday and tell them in person how they have helped me to grow as a quilter.

The first time I met Alex was in 2007 in Buffalo and she was signing autographs. I stood in line quite a while and as I got closer and saw the ladies chatting with her and posing for pictures, I couldn't imagine how calm they were! When it was my turn, I just froze and couldn't speak! I was completely star struck! Of course she chatted away and acted like she didn't notice.

The next time (2008), I was a bit better and actually said a few words. I even showed her a photo of a quilt I made from one of her patterns and she graciously signed a label for it.

Ricky was so easy going and natural. But of course, I was nervous and didn't manage to say much. Must be funny for them to see us get all wierd and star struck when they feel and act like "regular folk"!

I'm so grateful for the lessons they've given us. They are both such wonderful teachers. What a treasure this website is! NA

Pam, I did the same thing when I met Alex! I was pretty embarrassed tearing up. I mean I had met celebrities before and acted like an adult but here was someone who was bringing me the tools to learn about my passion and I just got verklempt. P.S. l would probably still cry if I met Paul McCartney lol.

I am in the groupies catagory also. But that is a good catagory to be in. I went to a QS taping last Sept. and it was so interesting. I am attending a retreat with Ricky in June and the countdown has begun.
Alex, Ricky, Justin and John are just the nicest people.

Mary Kay, definitely groupies. My family call me a Ricky Tims groupie. The first time I met Ricky was at Festival of Qulits show at Birmingham, UK last August. When I got to the show the first place I made for was Ricky's stand. As I walked up the aisle, the nearer I got to the stand, the more my heart started pounding. The nearest I can equate it to is a teenager in the '60s about to meet Paul McCartney. I actually started to get abit teary as it was such a big deal for me. Having seen him on TQS, to actually meet Ricky and attend his concert was wonderful and he is such a great guy too. No sense of ego or celebrity about him. Just a genuinely amazing guy, willing to share his talents with us all. He's the best!!!

Does this make us Ricky Roadies? Or Ricky Groupies? :? :D

I remember the first time that I met Ricky, I am sitting on the TQS couch" in the La Veta studio (first night of the La Veta Retreat).... we are all sitting around talking, and I am sitting right next to Ricky trying to remind myself to breath while I am sitting right next to Quilt Artistry Greatness :!: :!: :!: It was like sitting in a dream......... and to find out that Ricky is a down to earth person was just amazing!

Yes, I put myself in the Ricky, Justin AND Alex Groupie catagory! :D

I'll say ditto to what Patti said. I'm a big fan of both Ricky and Alex. They are a great pair of teachers. I'm blessed to be a part of TQS and this whole learning experience.
Happy Quilting,

I have been a fan of Ricky's since I saw his Caveman Quilting episode on Simply Quilts (however many years ago) and than have had the privelege and honor to meet him in person and become friends with his parents. I have also taken two of his classes, been to Super Seminar, and to the LaVeta quilt retreat. There not enough positive adjectives in the English language to explain what a fabulous, creative, supportive, kind, gentle, and loving man that he is. (Can you tell I am a SUPER FAN) but in the long run I am so blessed to have had these opportunities and will cherish the memories forever. RICKY YOU ARE THE BEST OF THE BEST. HUGS, ANN
