Rosemary, Looks fantastic. Beautiful work. I'd go with the yellow for the binding. If you want to add more red to outside then perhaps a red piping.

i agree with Lorna, yellow binding with red piping for a nice frame. The quilt is beautiful!

Rosemary...I would look to something lighter for the back as it could "dinge" up that white ! And being
a fan of red bindings...I like that idea best...with or without a piping..white OR yellow ... Either would
work I think !! Looking good !! :D :D :D

Here is a better lit photograph - we have stripes of sunshine today (the other stripes are rain & hail)

Lotti, good point about going for a darker binding something else to consider before I hit the dye bucket.

Originally I had planned on doing a 5 strip strippy back using these fabrics and doing a triangle zig-zag line between each colour

But now I am worried about there being shadowing - since this is for competition rather than just for the bed

Should I go for something a bit less drastic in colour change? - it might be time to go excavating to see what I have in the stash in large pieces ( sigh, decisions, decisions...)

Looking fab, rosemary! Cream bottom line should work just fine. And I'd probably try a white piping ( or just a thin white line, and then the red binding - thinking that bindings get the dust if hung, and use if used, which would show less on the red than on the yellow ) but that's me, always thinking of the cleaning, or more specifically, of how to avoid the cleaning... ;)

Rosemary, the quilt is beautiful. I too only have cream bottom line. I have used it on a white background and it is hardly noticeable because it is so fine. But depending on how accurate you are with the old SID you could use the invisible thread either. Personally, I would go for a yellow binding too.

What a delightful and whimsical quilt, Rosemary! I will be very interested in what you decide to do for the quilting. As for SIDESS, monopoly is fine, a 50 wt thread like Masterpiece could do, but I personally am partial to a 60 wt Bottom Line, if I decided not to do it with monopoly. In the end, if you are careful, even Masterpiece should work. Congratulations on a beautiful sampler quilt! :D
I meant to say Bottom line, rather than Masterpiece last night, but got a bit mixed up (it was past my bedtime, officer). And wouldn't you know, white is one colour I haven't bought yet  - I've got cream, tan, grey & black thinking that they should cover all my bases...

Thanks for all the kind words, I might make it to Harrogate yet :D

I love the quilt. Your hand dyes are so beautiful. They just glow. Just experimenting with machine quilting thread myself so I am interested in how the others advise you. It is beautiful.

Yup, its a winner! Good job. Don't know enough to advise you on quilting or binding, but maybe the yellow? or knife edge?
