TOPIC: april stars ?

02 Apr 2009 06:20 #33955

I'm thinking when using a controlled palette, I could probably use it in another star. After reading this thread, I'm so glad I did not get started working on this!

Good for you, Carol!!! This whole project has been a real learning experience for me, and I'm learning lots of things that will make me a better quiltmaker from now on.

Well, I should've known I should check this forum! I was cutting out and assembling my half square triangles and realized that what I had didn't work out to be what I would need. So I regrouped, looked at the pictures, and made it work. I could've saved some time and effort by just getting the revised instructions! That's okay, though. Problem solving is good for the brain, especially my aging brain! I was pleased that I got it worked out by myself. I still will probably download the revised instructions, though. I have all the little one inch squares correctly arranged and ready to start sewing into rows, but I need to wait till my sewing room is bright and sunny and I'm not tired!

Margo and Sue,

Thanks for responding so quickly! It is amazing how detailed the information you are giving us is. I can image that it takes lots of editing and testing. I will download the new file, but I actually am almost done with the blocks for this month, I just made sure that I made enough HST to match what the block diagrams used. :)

The correct April file has now been loaded onto the TQS system, per Guru Bob (he's wonderfully efficient and FAST!). Just a reminder, though... you may have to hit "refresh" on your browser if the old one continues to load. If you don't know how to refresh your system, try hitting F5 -- or go to "view" and then click on "Refresh."

Best wishes to all!

Sue -- thank heaven -- I was beginning to think I had lost my mind with the instructions, because before they were so clear. Margo, as always thanks for your hard work helping us.

the extras are there only because then I don't have to explain why the paper foundation would otherwise be shaped like the State of Utah.

YIKES!

Margo alerted me to a problem, so I immediately went and checked every single square, triangle, color, etc... and could NOT figure out where the problem was. that is... until I compared what was posted online and to the file that I have in my computer! Somehow an earlier, UNcorrected version of the pattern was posted. I have sent the updated version to the TQS computer guru and hope that it will be posted shortly. To know that you have the LATEST version of the pattern, the second page of the paper foundations will have a foundation for SIX BLUE LATTICE and GREEN SCROLLS fabric half-square triangles on the right side of the page. If that is what you see... you have the updated version of the pattern.

Also, YES, you will have two extra light pink/off-white and two extra green scrolls/off-white half-square triangles. Toss them away; the extras are there only because then I don't have to explain why the paper foundation would otherwise be shaped like the State of Utah.

I'm so sorry for the confusion. You are all doing a wonderful job with your piecing and your choice of fabrics. Hang in there!

OK ladies! As I explained in my tutorial, I did not test the labeled templates because I was using different fabrics from what Sue used. I just made a little chart for each block and replaced my fabrics for the ones in the pictures and because I was using small scraps from my stash, sometimes I needed a different shape for the templates, so I just cut out the number of triangles that I needed without paying attention to the fabrics they called for.

You can do that to!

In the meantime...I've called Sue and she is going to double check it for you. She will post a note when she can make it more clear.

So sorry for the confusion!

I am confused too! 01 Apr 2009 11:27 #33916

On page 4 it list what we should have after completing the foundations.

pink flower swirl and off-white half-square triangles are reported twice once for a total of 30 and once for a total of 8. There are no pink flower swirl and green triangles listed so I think that the 8 maybe the total for that color combo.

On the templates the pink/green combo is listed on the templates on the right for all 3 of the border star pages. 2 of the templates make 8 HST the other makes 6 HST. I am assuming that the 6 HST template is for the Blue/Green combo as the list on page 4 says I need 6. I counted 8 Green/Pink so I think that one of the 8 counts is correct and I think that the template that I need for those 8 are on page 10. Then I seem to still need the 16 Blue and white, which are not listed on page 4 and are not on my templates as well. I think that the template on the right of page 11 was supposed to be the one for the 16 Blue/white HST instead of one for 8 pink/green. If so, I can draw out the other 4 squares.

april stars ? 01 Apr 2009 10:58 #33915

I was just printing out the foundation papers for the april half square triangles for the 6" blocks. I need to clarify a few things.

The green and white foundation makes 30 units but only 28 are needed? Also only 28 pink and white with 2 extra? The three smallest paper foundations are labeled to use the same pink and green fabrics when the blocks need only 8 of this combination, there are two 8 unit papers labeled pink and green. The paper that makes only 6 units should be green and blue. There are 16 blue and white units needed for the 6" blocks but the only paper labeled blue and white is in the foundations for the 4" saw tooth border blocks.
I will be choosing fabrics in my own colors so how the foundations are labeled are not critical but I think the foundation paper for blue and white fabric combination is missing. :?:
