In 2010, TQS will treat you to not one, but two Sue Garman Block-of-the-Month quilts! Both quilts--one applique and one pieced--are bright and cheery, sure to be showstoppers on a bed or wall. Once again, Sue will offer lots of instruction and tips along with the patterns. Be ready: This is "the year of quilting" as Sue helps you enliven your quilts with many quilting options.

Don't miss out on the fun and learning available to you through the TQS BOM quilting community. Click here for the fabric requirements so you can be ready when we launch both patterns on January 1, 2010. (Word to the wise: We sold out our 2009 BOM quilts quickly, so be sure to get your 2010 kit(s) early by visiting the TQS Shoppe.) We are very excited to offer you this opportunity and look forward to you seeing your work as the year progresses.

I agree. I have not used the forum before. I will stay in touch with it for the BOM that is for sure. Thanks for the info.

Thanks Margo. I'm ready to start cutting the blocks for January. I've never used the forum before. It's nice to be able to talk to all the nice folks involved in this project.

Rondie,

I used the pages exactly as they are (no extra copies of any page) and it all came out just right.

Terry, on page 2 of the Month 1 directions, Sue tells you what size to cut your long border strips. If you do that first, the rest of the pieces will be small enough that having your yardage in several pieces shouldn't be a problem.

hi Margo
I have been busy sorting and cutting for both BOM's I am just about to sew. I have a question about the foundation on page 16 the last page of the directions. It says it makes 24 1 1/2" HST. My calculations adds up to six. Should that foundation be copied 4 times or does that happen latter in another month. i will hold off sewing this till I know what to do. thanks for stepping in and being our guide Margo. Rondie

You are right, Rondie. Page 16 will only give you 6 HSTs.

I did not use the paper-piecing foundations for my quilt, but maybe someone else can verify for us that those units will be used?

Thanks for posting your findings jgshrop!

Does everyone agree that those 5-1/2" background squares need to be deleted from the cutting list?

Thanks,

Everything else fit perfectly. So I'll hold those 2 squares for later.

I saw that in the cutting directions, but don't see a foundation for it. I also don't see a colored fabric cut to the same size.

jgshrop, I suggest that you just set those white blocks aside for now. I think the rest of the pieces will give you the required blocks for January.

If, in fact, it needs to be dropped from the directions, we can take care of that.....and I thank you so much for pointing out the error.

Hiya jgshrop

On page 3 of the instructions go to column headings & down column for explanation:

Color is white/white on white.
Cut to this size... has Two 5-1/2” squares.
To make (finished size) ...1-1/2” HSTs.
which will be used for the... 1-1/2” border HSTs.

Cheers,

Lou

I'm afraid that since it's been 6 months since I made the quilt, I'm actually not sure about those squares! Could you please go ahead and make your blocks and let me know if those are, in fact, extra pieces? Thank you.

Has anyone else figured this out yet???

Part of my problem is that I didn't follow all of Sue's directions because I made my quilt out of scraps and all of my cutting was done at one time.

We can figure this out!

Month 1 Blocks 02 Jan 2010 13:19 #41758

I've just cut all the required pieces for month one and carefully matched them to the pages. I'm worried about the extra squares. I understand the small ones, but what are the two 5 1/2" white squares for? I'm afraid to begin sewing until I have it all accounted for. :?:
