Kaffe Fassett fabric and quilts 08 Apr 2008 01:24 #16968

Well ladies.......

I love Kaffe Fassett fabrics too and am presently cutting out the fabrics for MORNING GARDEN QUILT from his book KALEIDOSCOPE OF QUILTS. I'm crazy about the designs in that book. I am also going to do a strippy, 25cm strips, just joined together from his book V & A QUILTS. I suppose I like his work because he uses simple blocks and lets the fabric do the talking.

I'm having a hard time deciding if I'm the wild and crazy kind of gal, or more soft and romantic when it comes to fabrics. I love Moda, both pastels and brights...April Cornell has a gorgeous new line for Moda that I saw in my LQS this afternoon, pink and lavenders, can't remember the name. The Kaffe prints are so cool, it's hard to resist, I agree. I also love Robert Kaufman, especially Florentine Scroll...I'm anxious to try a Stack and Whack using that delicious fabric...we'll see how it goes at next weeks class. I can spend hours online looking at all the luscious fabrics, but nothing beats "petting" them in my quilt shop!
Speaking of Moda, I've been getting Sanctuary blocks in the mail for the Patchwork Party. Still deciding which finishing kit to order from one of the 12 shops participating. Is anyone else participating?
ETA...A Little Romance is the April Cornell for Moda that I mentioned above. I also love Spring Fling!

One of my favorite Kaffe Fasset fabrics came out a few years ago--Swiss Chard in a colorway that we decided was "Chernobyl Chard".

Count me in on the Amy Butler, Kaffe Fassett fabric fan club. I have had lots of fun with their fabric. And I find the books with Kaffe's quilts very inspiring. I am definitely in to bright, but I don't decorate my home that way, it is sort of weird. And I have lots of unfinished projects, I sometimes think it is Attentions Deficit Disorder :P

I don't know yet what I'm going to do with my Freshcut. I just fell in love with it. I'm thinking maybe a totebag or a table topper of some kind. This is the group that I bought: http://www.etsy.com/view_transaction.php?transaction_id=5485970

I also bought these 4: http://www.etsy.com/view_transaction.php?transaction_id=5485969

What are you going to do with yours?

When I first saw Kaffe Fassett fabrics, I thought they were pretty ugly. BUT ... they grew on me! Now, I love them and collect a few everywhere I go. :)

I know everyone here is discussing fabric but I just looked at that Etsy web-site and had a great deal of fun checking out everything. If I start buying there, I could be in big trouble. Lots of cool stuff.

Sounds to me like the three of us would get along famously! We love similar fabrics and colors and are addicted to our inspiration magazines! and Chelley, there'd better not be any rules about being required to *finish* everything we start, or I'm in biiiiiiiig trouble!

Tarabenet,I'm amazed at how many different ways that people use the Day z Crazy fabric. It is bright and clear fabric! Beautiful. I do like Moda but ususally the brighter more colorful lines.
Aggiebabe, I actually haven't bought that particular magazine recently. I'll try to find it. I have a weakness for quilting and sewing magazines, also.

Benet, I love those brights, too! They are so pretty. I've got quite a few projects started (notice, I didn't say finished!) in those colors. They remind me of kid colors -- so bright and happy.

Grandma, have you seen the quilt on the cover of the Australian Patchwork and Quilting Magazine -- Volume 15 No 2? I think it's the April edition. It's sort of a turning 20 type quilt with fabrics that look a lot like Freshcut, Amy Butler, etc. It's very pretty. Some of the pieces are smaller, so I'm not sure how it would work with the fabrics, but it's a possibility.

You got a beautiful selection!
I'm going to admire them for awhile. I thought about a turning twenty but changed my mind because I just don't think they'd be shown off well enough. I'm going to have to keep a lookout for something special. Probably a quilt.
I know what you mean by kaffe. I thought they were gaudy but I have one of his books and the fabric works.
I also love the washtub collection of retro fabrics. They're bright and colorful. I have to admit to collecting more than doing at this point.

I'm always a fan of Moda for the great griege goods and dyes they use, but the colors aren't always my faves. Right now I'm itching to get to work on a quilt in the Day Z Crazy line from Lakehouse Dry Goods. Just love those popsicle brights!
