TOPIC: Questions for Sarah - Month 3 (March)

Re: Questions for Sarah - Month 3 (March) 02 May 2012 10:42 #80098

Pat - can you send me a photo of the block, next to template 2, with a ruler across it? Sounds like something is wrong - but I don't know what without seeing it!

Sarah :-)

From edge to edge on the solid line, I have 9 7/8". The points are off by 1/2 ".

Hi Pat,

If your circle is the correct size (I think it should be 10" diameter when finished, therefore 10.5" diameter including seam allowances), and your finished square is the correct size (12" finished, 12.5" with seam allowances) then I wouldn't worry too much.

Having said that, how far off are the points?

I just finished all the star for Month 3, but my points don't match up with Template # 2. I measured my squares and they are all 2 x 2..

ps: printed templates using RT Stable Stuff

Any suggestions before I go unto Month 4

Patty - yes! The wrong side of the fabric will be attached to the unprinted side of the template. This way you will be able to see the markings on the template.

Everyone has been really quiet this month!

Sarah, Regarding month 3, template 2: the directions say to glue/paste the wrong side of the fabric to the right side of the template. Does this mean I glue/paste the wrong side of the fabric to the unprinted side of the template? Just want to check before I start cutting! Thank you, Patty

Sarah, I don't have a question, I just want to thank you for putting the little lines in
for lining up stripes. I don't have any stripes in my fabrics, but used the lines anyway
and it was such a help. I haven't done much paper piecing and they made it go so quickly
and smoothly.

Re: Questions for Sarah - Month 3 (March) 12 Mar 2012 09:54 #77521

Hello bearsquilting,

Sorry for the late response - been out of town teaching this weekend.

No - I don't pre-wash or starch my fabric! This quilt has Dream Orient batting in it. My favorite batting, which I couldn't get in time to put in this quilt, is Pellon Legacy Wool. Whatever you use, make it a lightweight batting as the quilt is rather large so can get very heavy.

Kind regards,
Sarah :-)

Sarah, I am getting a late start on my BOM. Hope to get caught up. Do you prewash and or starch your fabric? Also what batting did you put in your quilt? Thank you for this BOM.

Hi sarah, i have been having a really hard time getting my circles to match up correctly on template 1 , & i am being particularly careful after all my troubles last month.
I had printed them all out on to tearaway, but i eventually decided to print out 1 set on to foundation paper which i was hoping not to use anymore, & lo & behold it matches perfectly. so now i have decided that it goes a bit squwiff maybe when putting our own cut tearaway ( not rickys stuff cos we cant get it ) through the printer & its not necessarily accurate, it could be how i got into such a mess last month & was so far out. Just thought id mention it incase anyone else was having the same trouble. So i hope its ok for me to use foundation paper for this month & see how i go. Really wish i could get my hands on some of rickys stuff
