TOPIC: Questions for Sarah - Month 2 (February)

Re: Questions for Sarah - Month 2 (February) 25 May 2012 15:01 #81211

Hi Pat,

There is no need to finish any of the edges that will be in the seam allowance. So... D&E go down first - blanket stitch the two long sides on each piece. A, B and C go down next. Blanket stitch the long sides of A and one side each for B&C - the side that is not in the seam allowance. For F (the part circle) you only need to stitch the curved edge. The two straight edges will be in the seam allowance.

Hope this helps.

Sarah...I've finished all the blocks to date and am now going back to Month 2 to do the blanket stitching around the spikes. Question: Do you do the blanket stitch on the outer edge spikes or just the inner side of I & H? Also, on part F, do you blanket stitch around ALL sides.

Thanks
Pat

Hi Pat,
Lisa is the authority on the B&B colors. Here's a post she submitted a while back.
Sarah :-)

Okay ladies. I'm sorry for the delay in my response. I have been very, VERY busy!!! I had to find out from Alex which thread colors I started with to narrow it down which ones I used because some of the spools were gone. I used a two different tones of red, two tones of the natural colors and one blue for my applique on the Buttons & Blooms quilt. They were all 50wt. cotton mako threads and the color numbers are:
2350
2355
2340
2314
1310

Hope this helps!

Good Morning Sarah

Still working on Month 2, but having an issue with the thread. Auriful is not available in Nova Scotia, but I found a supplier in another province, but it's really difficult to select the colors you need. What color would you suggest for the Buttons and Blooms fabric? It's hard to audition colors on the computer..your help is going to be appreciated !!

The order in which everything needs to be done is specified in the instructions...

Sarah

At what point do you do the blanket stitching on this piece?

Hi Pat,

I think it's time for a deep breath! You can more than likely use the 2nd set of pieces as you progress with the other months. I wouldn't start worrying just yet!

Kind regards,
Sarah :-)

Hi Sarah

I've made a terrible mistake with month 2. I hadn't realized a had cut all the fabric required early, then picked it up again and didn't I cut the fabric again. Will I have enough fabric now to finish this project? I must have been having a senior moment..I even had it check off...duh!

Hi Manuela,

I use 50 weight in the same color in the bobbin.

Glad to hear you're enjoying the challenge! I'm loving seeing all the photos posted in the Show and Tell area.

Hi Manuels, nice to see a new face on the forum. I don't know how heavy 28wt is but I would think if it fits through the eye of your needle you could use any thread in your bobbin. I use Superior Bottom Line thread in my bobbin because it is very fine and you can get a lot of thread on the bobbin--less rewinding and more sewing :D

Sarah,
I don't know if anyone has asked you this already but I would like to know what you use in the bobbin when you use 28 wt thread in the needle.
Also, I would like to thank you for this beautiful BOM - I am definitely enjoying the challenge.

Hi eterry - I think I would have been better off doing that myself. My hands are scratched and sore from all the pins I used to keep it all in place! But it is done now.

I just want to own up to not having measured my circles at all - I just finished putting it altogether (spent 4 hours unpicking to wiggle out the tucks that appeared!) and I think if I measured it now and found it wrong I would cry! :D

Right, onto March!
