It's carnival here in central Switzerland. That was me yesterday afternoon... And again today, for work too. We had the children's carneval parade this afternoon and I wasn't about to run home and get changed between work and that... So first thing this morning out comes all the makeup, on with the hair, carneval coat (I sewed my costume out of an old winter coat, that way I can just put my coat on and am ready to go...), on with the hat (there's a huge spider sitting on top of the hat), and walk to work... I walk past one of the main venues, and there were quite a few people still there from last night... A little further on someone said 'good morning' and was quite surprised when he had a bright and happy good morning back instead of the semi-conscious grunt he was probably expecting... Of course the hat and coat were not part of my office attire, but face was, and the wig caused a few smiles. Tomorrow is our last day & night of carneval, at five am on Wednesday we finish and the fasting time starts. Other parts of Switzerland will start on Wednesday, but they will only have three days... I prefer our Thursday (5am) to Wednesday (5am) '5th season'. Yes that's what it's called here, this is our fifth season, we have: spring, summer, autumn, winter & carneval! Tomorrow night we burn our turnip king which symbolizes the driving away of winter and the winter spirits.
