TOPIC: The Quilt Show/Disappointment

21 Feb 2008 20:14 #14043

Me too on the initials. I'm usually pretty good with puzzles but those are escaping me. I kind of like it when someone jumps in and complains. It's such a good excuse to once again say out loud how much this site means to most of us. I am just going to say Amen to what has already been said so well by Ann and everyone else. I can't imagine life without TQS. Gloria

Okay, Mandy, I hope this isn't a stupid question, but what do all of those initials mean anyway? I am slowly learning a few but not that long one

too too funny I am rotflamao too. Dh is in the other room calling the psych ward once again to see if there is an opening so he can check me in. He doesn't understand how much fun we have sometimes. Isn't it great that there are places like this where we can laugh, cry, complain sometimes and rejoice with each other over our successes and say try again if something doesn't go just right. so all the snobbles can go off and buy their magazines, dvd
s and books and miss a whole lot of fun (but they probably aren't much fun anyway so they can stay away I won't miss them) Ann

The first episode with Joe Cunningham is no longer the sample show. The freebie preview show is episode 107 with Jean Wells. Just for fun, log out and take the tour for non-members.

Yes, just getting your toes wet won't show the depth and breadth of what TQS offers to those of us who have jumped right in.

It's a teacher, a preacher (sometimes), a friend, a shoulder, a mentor, a sharing forum, a challenger, and God only knows what else!

Sorry Alaska will miss it, but I also acknowledge it's not for everyone! Nothing is for everyone! Isn't it wonderful to live in a time/place to be able to pick and choose!

Eileen, you hit on something there. If you had not COME IN and CRUISED AROUND you would not have found out x...y...z. People who just dabble their toes, watch the freebe show, never check out the forum or any of the links just do not get the full experience. I can see where someone who only watched the free show might be disappointed. I think when the first poster posted the free show was Joe Cunninghams, which while I enjoyed the chat and music I could see where if you were looking for techniques you might be just a bit discouraged.

We can't please everyone, no matter how hard we try, so there will always be those who are going to be disgruntled. But note, both the postings who were disappointed had one thing in common - they never CAME IN or CRUISED AROUND, they had their blinders on!!!

If I didn't come here everyday and cruise around the site, I'd never have found out about the Super Seminar! 69 days!!
I've had the "yawns" about a couple of shows but I wouldn't trade this site for anything. 8)
Ann, I think you said it best. Thanks.

Ann, I was going to write "well said," and then saw someone else say that :D I join everyone else in saying how much I love TQS. I spend time here every day. There are so many wonderful people that it would be so much fun to meet in person, and I have even made a new best friend! This site is about so much more than the videos (which I have learned so much from)! I read everyone's blogs and always check the forum and the daily blog and so on. Compared to the price of a magazine subscription, I think we've gotten a really good value for our money! Sherry

Re: dissapointing 20 Feb 2008 22:46 #14006

....Cost of premium membership: PRICELESS"

I like this Linda! I was thinking about this too. I didn't like every Simply Quilts show and I get very disappointed when the local PBS stations show the same reruns of the quilt shows they carry over and over. I think because there is not a daily show offering, you'll not likely get daily "aha" moments. I've been pleasantly surprised because in this venue topics I thot would leave me cold juiced me up to try something I hadn't considered before. Like the vintage linen show. This turned out to be one of my faves and I would not have thot it would touch me. Well that's why we're here because we do like it here. There's another site that offers several shows I think I would love but between time and money, I'd rather invest both here.

I know that we can't all like the same things, but for what it's worth, I think that TQS is wonderful. I enjoyed SQ, but like this show so much more. I think Alex and Ricky make a great pair, and enjoy all the extras about gizmos, photos and thread. I think I am a pretty serious quilter, and I hope I never lose the "fun" of it. And I love Ricky's music. :-)
