I hear your plight on rooms. I have a home in Lower Town Paducah. That's the historic downtown area. We purchased it in 2011, so I've only been to the quilt show once - and the house was loaded with friends sleeping free I have decided to open one large bedroom for lease on that week, (stepping in slowly). I have a Candle Gallery in one room on the first floor so I will be working that week. It is on the home tour that Friday of quilt week, as one of the historic homes of significance. The home is 3 blocks from the quilt show. It's a 130 year old restored home - still working on getting all the details completed, but it's very comfortable. The room will include one Queen size bed, sitting area, with private bath. You can walk to downtown restaurants - 5 city blocks. There's a kitchen of course, and a nice front porch for drinking wine after a long day at the show It's in the center of the arts district so many of the art galleries will be open and within walking distance. I am not 'approved' as a lodging place - will do that next year, if this year works out. I have references however, including the President of the Paducah Chamber of Commerce. The address is 502 N 6th Street, 42001. If you google that address on google maps and go to street view you will see the house. It's one of the nicer homes in the historic district. It's called the Mary Jane (seems everyone names their homes here). I will lease for 4 nights minimum at $275/night (single or double occupancy). I can take a credit card (VISA/MC). There is a shuttle that takes attendees all over the town to view different displays. Paducah has a lot of economy hotels - but they are just overwhelmed during this week, rooms lease up to 75 miles away, and many book year after year so by October they are all gone. Report on the Paducah show: wonderful as usual. Things were moved to different areas, but everyone was very helpful in giving us directions. The quilts were beautiful. There are aways a few that make me wonder how they got in, but most were very worthy. I was able to attend Ricky's show for the first time and it was wonderful. I laughed so hard I cried. I couldn't even yell Woo Hoo! The only disappointment was when I went to Ricky's booth at 1:00 no one was there, except Justin. No offense Justin, but I had so looked forward to meeting some of the sister's. Hopefully I will meet some of you in KC in a couple of weeks. I spent way too much money, of course, but "needed it for my "collection". It is not a stash anymore. The weather was just incredible yesterday too. The number of Jananese visitors was way down from previous years. A reminder to keep praying for the earthquake/sunami victims and for all the recent tornado victims. Wishing you all the best.

It looks like the new mall location is closer to most of the hotels and Hancock's of Paducah. I suppose that's good news for those who have hotel reservations, but bad news for those of us whose hotel is closed due to flooding.

So far, I've had no luck finding alternative accommodations and am wondering now if I still want to go. Fortunately, I will not have lost too much money in advance show, museum and Rotary Club tickets. Maybe, it just wasn't meant to be.

In the future, I will probably wait and just buy tickets at the door.

Great question Nancy! I am driving from SE MO and am worried about the roads being flooded. I remember in '93 we had to drive way out of the way to get there. Still worth the effort. I had to cancel my motel reservations because I can only attend on Friday. So sad!! Family conflicts. I need to babysit. But I love the DGCs. My reservation was about 45 minutes away from Paducah. At the Drury in Marion, Il. A long drive, but better than the 2 hours from my house. Good luck on finding another room. I still need to make a reservation for the MQS in KC.

Quick note from Paducah on Sat. 4/23:
The lovely dogwoods have been and gone.
Tornado warnings last night (spent a couple of hours communing with fellow hotel guests in the ground floor hallways). Nothing touched down but we were certainly in the path of the storms that struck St. Louis.
Everything else seems ready.
If you want to see the show but were convinced that you couldn't find a hotel room, there may still be some available. Worth calling around.

I know what you mean about the airlines - that's a big question mark for me too.
