This is just a great thread and Annis - what a wonderful job on the quick EQ work! You are a pro! :)

I sure like your idea of trying out other colors and the larger blocks, less piecing idea. I love quilting and that would even give more play areas. Makes the BOM seem a bit possible. ;) Another one on the To-do list. LOL!

This is the version of the quilt that I hope to do someday for my guest room. I simplified the borders I wanted to do and changed the ones I didn't. I found the center medallion in EQ and modified it slightly. I wanted a touch of modern to go with the Inspire Shower Curtain in the guest bath. With the larger block pieces I will save about one third of the fabric requirements and the sewing will go much faster. The quilt will be slightly larger measuring about 88". For now it will go in my drawer of hopefuls. No time for new large projects right now.

I cannot even imagine how you worked with such small pieces. Amazing!

I found a Feathered Star block in EQ that I modified slightly to make the Halo Star. That was the only block I wasn't able to draw myself. I do have a book that gives instructions for more complex blocks, but it is at my other home. Since the quilt center is set on point the dimensions will be off by a fraction of an inch. The first floater will not be chopped off at the corners like mine is. That was just the easiest way for me to draw this, although I will admit I did try to draw the center block at first with the floater and setting triangles until I realized I needed the instructions.

I've finished the drawing. Here is a JPEG you can print out and color or open in Photoshop or other programs to add color. The size of the narrow border strips (floaters) will vary depending on the accuracy of your seam allowances. The dimensions I came up with for the blocks are about 16" for the halo star before it is set on point. With the floater and setting triangles it measures about 24". The first round of hst's are 1" each. The evening star border is 5" which includes the 1" strip above or below the 4" stars. The flying geese quarters are 5". The next round of hst's are 1-1/2". The pinwheels are 3". The flying geese border is 3". The delectable mountain border is 6". Don't cut any of your pieces until you get Sue's instructions. These measurements are my best estimate. Enjoy!

It is about 23" square, just under the max of 24". If I were to make another one it would be no more than 18" as the larger size took too long to quilt on a domestic machine.

Hey! I don't have EQ7, but I would be very interested in seeing what colors you guys decide to do. The quilt is beautiful, I am thinking that I will make it, (why not add it to all the other things I'm going to make), but the colors just don't do it for me.
Annis, your quilt is beautiful, you have it in the miniature category, what is the size of it?

Thank you so much! I was sad not to be in Houston. Congratulations on your win! I did go online to look at it - beautiful!

I had a great time in Houston looking at all of the beautiful quilts, and got a computer upgrade for my Innova, not much else though. Now I'll need to get back to quilting since they say this upgrade will make it go a lot faster. We'll see. At least they added an undo button. That will help a lot!

Annie, would you be willing to share that with me too when you are done? I'm still trying to decide if I'm doing it and am trying to decide on colors. Thanks.

Sounds like you picked the best activity - anything related to quilting trumps cleaning and bookkeeping most of the time! The quilt pattern sounds perfect to me. Have a fantastic time in Houston!
