Looks like you are all sorted now, but just to say that it is perfectly possible to make your cable go up to 12 or even 15 inches across. The cable on my Sottts quilt is 12" across

or if you want you can combine cable with feathers...{!-- ia0 -->img772.jpg{!-- ia0 -->

Well if it has the Margo stamp of approval, it's a go! Thanks for everything today, feel relieved and looking forward to the next stage of finishing this quilt. Funny how life works out, I had a major pain crisis with my back this morning so put everything on the back burner but was able to sit at the computer which doesn't hurt at all and sort out my quilt with everyone's help. Even played around with smilies!

Been through all the stencils and really like the simple idea of continuous scallops on page 20 finishing up with Libby Lehman's Rondolet border and for getting around the corners. What do you think Margo :?: Is this a good  :!: . sorry I will stop now

You are too much yourself Juliet, I just spent the past ages reading Sue Garman's blogs because of what you said about finding instructions for a feather on her site. The woman's work is sublime. :D

Also, for the border you can split it up by doing something like quilting swags through the middle, then the same or different designs above and below the swags. For example, I've seen nice wide borders with quilted swags and piano keys or bead board above and below. You could also do beadboard below and feathers above or something like that. Of course, you'll want to keep it simple since the actual stitches won't show.

Margarita, if you are looking for border designs, the Stencil Company has 21 pages of borders in assorted sizes, so maybe you will find some inspiration here:

The outside border will be the blue scroll and if my sister goes for 12'' or even 15" I don't know if you can put in a cable that size or do you have to split it up with something above and below? Not there yet but wondering!

I haven't read all the other suggestions so just ignore this if it is a repeat--I will repeat what Margo said--the quilting will not be seen on anything but the yellow. So, if your outermost border is going to be 12" or more and it will be the yellow fabric, I would be tempted to machine stitch in the ditch on the body of the quilt and use my hand-quilting on the yellow (if you want to do hand-quilting). It sounds like you are ready to call this quilt done so I would do what I enjoy most and what ever gets the body of the work done. Take a little break from it by doing something small--like maybe a quilted postcard--and then look at it with fresh eyes.

Thanks, and there is a very good one I found by Googling by Sue Garman who designed the first ever BOM for the TQS, and a lady called Margo comments her appreciation!

If you look back at the recent Sue Nickels episode, she shows how to draft feathers. Maybe that will help.
