Living just south of Lake Michigan--we ofter get lake effect snow. The wind and cold coming straight south of the Arctic has been known to drop 6' of snow on us. Sometimes the "front" circles around and we have snow, then it stops, and we have snow again. I personally like it but most don't.

Although, one year we lost electricity for several days(my house is all electric) and it didn't come back on until my birthday--I woke up to the noise of the appliances coming back on. My husband was stranded 30 miles from home and it was just my youngest and I shoveling snow and hauling in fire wood.

"Lake effect snow" is explained here. Basically, because the Great Lakes are such large lakes, they cause large amounts of snow for the surrounding area during certain atmospheric conditions.

I wouldn't wish that lake effect snow on my worst enemy. I hope it leaves New York soon and goes back to the Arctic.

We've no snow, but it sure is cold. Too far south and east of the Great Lakes to get the lake effect snow. Very, very cold.

Oh--I forgot--last year we had a lot of cold and snow here and I believe you folks across the pond did also so maybe the F-I-L knows what he is talking about.

Gratefully, Loren is able to drive(though why he would want to, knowing an accident could cause him to bleed to death, heaven only knows) so he doesn't feel like I am watching him as closely. But YES, I am grateful it is only a week.

My FIL always say that we get the same weather as the states 6 weeks later - do you think we might be in for a white Christmas?

Work is going ok, getting very quiet now - not a lot of alts coming in especially on the ladies side of things. Still need to keep working on getting my times down though.

I've just been watching the news and seen the snow fall in New York. Brrr keep safe any of you in that area. Very beautiful but very destructive.
