Thank you, thank you, thank you, Charae! Susan chess pieces would look amazing on my quilted chess board. I'm delighted you told her she has a fan this side of the Atlantic. I bet there are lots more beside me. The lady is a true artist!

Alex was there, too, along with the quilts from her new book.

Charae, I have admired Susan Else's quirky, artistic figures for several years. They really are unique.

About mug rugs........ Within a couple of weeks I have three little guys who are going to look for a new home. Does anybody want to adopt one? They will have all the necessary shots, are healthy, house-trained, and easy to look after. So far they have no bad habits, and it'll be up to you if you introduce them to orange juice, coffee, tea, wine, or single malt. :)

'Long John Silver': Nautical but Nice!
'Tweety': Just right for lovers of quirky birds.
'Demeter': Earth-Mother rules ok!

Lorchen--after seeing your comment, I told Susan that she has a fan in the UK; she was genuinely touched and surprised. She is such a down to earth, self effacing person.

There'll be a queue here soon........ Welcome, Mathew, to the hard core quilters, mug ruggers, and lounge lizards! I can't compete with Rosemary's offer (those horses are something special), but I'll gladly exchange with you too. :)

Rosemary is right, we are very relaxed, and there are no deadlines or specific rules. Making some mug rugs would give you a great chance to get to know your sewing machine. You may find that something that you practice on a mug rug and that you like the looks of could then be used for a full size quilt.

Rosemary,

If you have a white horse that would like to live with me, I know I can find enough hay and water to feed him!

Good to see you here Mathew. A mug rug is a small quilt that is large enough to take a mug and a biscuit/cookie/piece of cake. I have received various sizes from 9"x5" to 10"x8" and one hexagonal one about 9" across. Not all of them have a binding on around the edge, so it can be a good way to practise different ways of finishing quilts - and of trying out different making techniques to see how you get on with them. If you go here see-quilts/show-and-tell-quilts/ you will be able to see some of the mug rugs that have already been made & posted. It tends to be the receiver that posts the mug rug on show & tell (which reminds me I haven't posted any of mine yet  , I'll try & get it done next). The first post that Rita directed you to gives the general guidelines of what is supposed to happen, but it is an easy going exchange.

Would you like one of my White Horses? I am doing a series of chalk figures that are found on the various chalk Downs of England, and still have a few horses unspoken for....

Brilliant, Jane! I'll try to persuade him to fly rather than to row across the big pond. I'll be in touch with address when I'm back home. :)

I have plenty of experience looking after waifs and strays, so I'll look after your little orphan really well - promise!

Phew! It really should be there soon. It is sad when they can get to Canada and England faster than here in the States.

Long John Silver sounds like he'd love to come to Arizona. Would greatly love to give him a home safe from other pirates  , and an orphan who is staying temporarily with me could then come to you and take his place. :D
