Both tables are great. Baskets or doors will hide the clutter and the chocolate.

Might look for spring-loaded curtain rods in sm. size..I've had them in the RV...To put in places
and spaces !! to keep things from falling over/out on shelves and the like. Great looking cabinet !

Yep, thread cones are out! But I should be able to put things like spray bottles on the little shelves. If they get knocked down, I can just put them back up again with no worries of harm to the little rapscallions. I'll also try to think of a way to put bars across some of the shelves to help hold things in, but don't want to do anything that would mar the wood.

Nancy, I am so glad that you got a cutting surface that you like. Your one looks great. I like the fact that it has doors on the cupboard and those little side shelves look perfect for all sorts of things - thread cones perhaps? Or would your critters have a field day with them if they were there? I can't believe the price they were going to charge you for shipping from Ikea.

This is my one. (I collected and assembled it myself.) I love the fact that it's the perfect height and I never get backache any more when cutting fabric.

I got my new cutting table today from Ikea. It is the kitchen island called Stentorp. Beautiful size and height, two shelves underneath and an area at the back for storage too. I will post a photo when I can - just off to oil the beautiful wooden top now. :D

This is from a very old post, but I've been wanting to do the same thing since I read this. I finally got around to this. I first looked at Ikea and found a kitchen island that would be a good size, not sure if it was the same one that Rita got. But it cost $400 and they wanted an additional $299 to ship it! I was fine with it until the shipping! So I decided to look at Amazon and found this beauty:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002PY7PMK/ref=oh_details_o07_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

The shipping was free and it arrived in just a couple of days! (I was glad to have it delivered because the boxes were VERY heavy.) I put it together this weekend and absolutely LOVE it! It's extremely well-made and sturdy. It's on wheels and they are real ones rather than the plastic ones you get on cheap put-it-together-yourself furniture. The height is perfect. The top is 40"x24" so it fits my large cutting mat with just the margin of the cutting mat on the 24" length not supported. Now I just have to get the plywood cut and make my pressing surface. Thanks for the great idea, Rita!!
