Yes, Wendy, but an eight-hour day for me is probably a three-hour day for you with your experience! And just because I resolved to work that long every day, my productive time was probably less than half of that, with all the practicing, breaks and piddling around I did... I suspect that people like you and Rita will knock a beautiful quilt out of the park in 20 days flat, no problem!

Do you mean make our 'interpretation' of it, like you gals are doing with the CW quilts? Not follow the exact pattern, but our interpretation of it - what it 'means' or makes us think about?

Yes that is it, I just went & found the page it was on, so we could have a browse at some of the earlier quilts too, whilst we were at it

Ok, here goes, quilt number 700 in the gallery, we don't have to make the idea up in fabric, but lets see what ideas we can come up with from it's inspiration

Thanks for all the encouragement. I am feeling a little bit better. I had a number of plans that were just too complex. The complexity involved required more than practice. It required experience and time I do not have. I really believe what they say about productivity being the best way to develop as a quilter. I know that I am better at construction skills than designing. Now it feels as if I may have a plan that is doable. Hopefully, I still believe I have a plan when I get up in the morning.

Rosemary, I agree that picking work from the gallery as inspiration is a great idea. I too wish we had kept it going. I wouldn't mind doing that again when I finish this project. But then their is that long list of Projects-In-Waiting (not yet begun), not to mention UFO's. I have enough of PIW's & UFO's for a few lifetimes.

Lois,
Terrie is so right that your CW quilt will be beautiful and that you should not underestimate your abilities and let your creative juices flow!

Having just been through this before you, I can assure you that a lot of things on my quilt were beyond my experience, but I really wanted to convey what I did. Whenever I reached a place where I did not think I knew how to do something, I just practiced on the side and when comfortable, I moved to the real thing! I also kept to a pretty intensive schedule (easily eight-hour days with lots of breaks to stay fresh), so that when I hit a bump, I was able to take time-out and figure out how to do something and still be on time. Once I had a plan at the beginning of the process, everything did seem more manageable.

So I re-iterate: Lois, you CAN DO THIS!!! I KNOW you can and it will be beautiful! LIke Terrie, I too LOVE your mug rugs and hope when your turn with CW is over you'll consider adding me to your mug rug list!!! :P

Lois, yours will be beautiful. Don't underestimate your abilities, let the creative juices flow and enjoy the process. Your mug rugs were wonderful. Enjoy the process.

And keep breathing - don't hyperventilate!

Absolutely KISS is definitely a good plan.

Should we have kept up practising taking design ideas with quilts here in the gallery?

My problem always is that my skills don't match up to my ideas! Simplify. Simplify Simplify.
